Unless you've been living under a rock, everyone has seen or heard about the latest addition to the "Star Wars" collection -- "Episode VII: The Force Awakens." Some of us waited with anticipation, others (myself included) didn't really care, but wondered what all the hype was about. I ended up going to see it a few days before Christmas... and the Force definitely was awakened. I ended up marathoning the previous six movies within two weeks of seeing "Episode VII," and bought my own BB-8 with all of my Christmas money. Kind of an obsession, and I am a total nerd. With that, the other day I was wondering where would the characters of "Star Wars" call their home away from home in Greek life? Here's what I came up with...
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Kappa Alpha Theta
Obi-Wan knew he wanted to be a Theta after hearing about their philanthropy, CASA. Working with kids while also being able to potentially find more young Jedi was right up his alley. He also knew their colors of black and yellow would work well with his wardrobe.
C-P30: Zeta Tau Alpha
C-P30 is the droid that was designed for etiquette and protocol. He wasn't planning to go through recruitment, but after meeting the put-together ladies of Zeta, he changed his mind. He prefers for things to be prim and proper, so after one visit, he knew he was home.
Finn: Delta Phi Epsilon
Finn is the latest character to join the Star Wars family, so it makes sense that he would click with the fun girls of DPhiE, the 2015 addition to the houses of Milledge Avenue. His confidence and sense of adventure made him a perfect candidate for the founding class.
Lando Calrissian: Delta Delta Delta
Lando is a lot of fun, and a little mischievous, which makes him similar to the Tri-Delts. His favorite past time is card playing, so he was officially sold once he heard about their annual casino date night. Unfortunately, due to some unknown standards issues, he wasn't able to attend.
Yoda: Sigma Delta Tau
The wise Jedi Master Yoda fits in perfectly with SDT for two reasons; the first being that they have the highest GPA on campus. The second reason is that they are the masters of philanthropy here at UGA, setting records every year with their coveted event, Sigma Delta Tau Greek Grind.
BB-8: Phi Mu
BB-8 is the new little droid that won over everyone's hearts in the latest "Star Wars" episode. Recently, the character has been making visits to hospitals to visit children, so Phi Mu's philanthropy, the Children's Miracle Network, fit well with it.
R2-D2: Alpha Delta Pi
R2-D2 is the original droid (first and finest) of the Star Wars series, so it was instantly enchanted with ADPi. R2 felt right at home, not only because of their high GPA, but being that they were the very first secret society for women and jump-started the phenomenon of sororities.
Han Solo: Kappa Delta
KD matched well with Han Solo because they do things fiercely, and they look good while doing it. After he received his bid, he celebrated by painting the Millennium Falcon green.
Princess Leia: Alpha Omicron Pi
Leia's sweet and sassy personality meshed well with the AOPis, plus, she appreciated their high GPA. On top of that, she had the perfect outfit for the Red Rose Formal, being that almost her entire wardrobe is all white.
Darth Vader: Kappa Kappa Gamma
Darth Vader fits in with KKG because they embody the dark side... I'm just kidding. You know, I don't really have a good reason for this one. Darth Vader is cool and fierce, Kappa is cool and fierce, it just seems like a good match.
R2-KT: Sigma Kappa
R2-KT is a pink droid with a sweet background, it was created as a tribute to a little girl with brain cancer named Katie. This embodies Sigma Kappas because they're sweet girls who like to have fun and light up the room when they walk in. Plus, it goes well with their colors.
Luke Skywalker: Chi Omega
Luke is a Jedi that everyone likes. He fit in well with the Chi Os because he could do his own thing and people didn't really judge him. He also really liked their owl mascot because it reminded him of Yoda for some reason. Plus after he received his bid, he switched to a yellow and red light-saber so he could represent his sistas in battle.
Shmi Skywalker: Gamma Phi Beta
Shmi is the mother of Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader. This maternal instinct made her the "mom" of her pledge class. She's a simple, kind, go-with-the-flow kind of girl, so she fits in well with the Gamma Phis.
Kylo Ren: Delta Gamma
Kylo Ren is the son of Leia and Han Solo. Rockin combo right? During recruitment, he particularly enjoyed DG because of their Service for Sight philanthropy, not only because it's a great cause, but also because he can't see well with that mask on. Plus, he enjoyed that they have a guide dog.
Poe Dameron: Alpha Gamma Delta
Poe is a member of the Rebellion and also a pilot. He liked Alpha Gam because the ladies were adventurous, like him. Also, the roof of their house is big enough to land a spaceship on,so he figured he could continue with his love of flying.
Rey: Delta Zeta
Rey is tough, but she's still the kind of girl who will go out for a GNO and drink cosmos. She found that she got along well with the DZs, and ended up playing (and winning) every intramural sport.
Queen Padmé Amidala: Pi Beta Phi
Padmé is the mother of Luke and Leia and has always been a natural born leader. She felt like Pi Phi's arrow symbol was perfect for her because she liked to look ahead to the future. Later on, she ended up being the President of the Panhellenic Council.
Sabé: Alpha Chi Omega
Sabé is one of the most loyal characters in the entire Star Wars series. Because of this, she got along great with the Alpha Chis from the start of recruitment to the end. Upon getting her bid, she immediately started wearing strictly AXO t-shirts.
Captain Phasma: Alpha Phi
Captain Phasma was briefly introduced in "Episode VII," she's the first female general of the New Order. In the next few movies her character will be explored more, so it's only fitting that she would pledge the upcoming addition to UGA Panhellenic, Alpha Phi.
Happy recruitment training to all you sorority gals out there, may the force be with you.
