Spring Out Of Winter

The nice weekend weather gave us a taste of the warmer months ahead, but how often do we let this change just happen to us. I’ve written about this season in a previous post and I’ve really grown to appreciate the spring in ways I never would have imagined. This got me thinking about some things. I used to hate spring, but even with my newfound love, I noticed that this season doesn’t get the same welcoming as the others. We face the beginnings of summer heat in simple attire and ice cream adventures. We welcome the fall in layered scarves and pumpkin picking dates. We warm up to the winter in coats and gatherings. How do we invite the spring? I'll tell you one thing, spring cleaning doesn’t count. Here are some ways to take advantage of the seasonal shift rather than just letting it happen to you. After all, this season symbolizes rebirth. These are some takes on the things you already do. Spring into them!

Career

Give yourself a personal evaluation. See where you are for the year and reflect on what you’ve learned. How can you apply this to the rest of your goals moving forward? This is also a great opportunity to get more involved. Join an organization in your field or explore a new hobby that can tie into your current career goals. The last thing you should feel is stagnant. Whether you've been in your field for decades or are job hunting, looking for new ways to expand still applies. We’re in this great era where growth is at the tip of our fingers and to not take advantage of the resources is only a shame come true.

Health and Wellness

Get yourself out there and cancel that gym membership. I mean did you really think you were going to stick to that resolution anyway? It’s warming up enough where you can have a fun workout at the park. Go for a run and implement your own strength technique for muscle growth. Maybe your softball league is starting up soon, but get out there and work that body for the world to see. If health reasons prevent physical activity, then keep up with some light stretches and make some room for meditation.

Relationships

Get outside with some friends and loved ones while the sun peaks out and the breeze goes by. Go for a picnic at the park or a walk through the city, but nothing beats good weather and good company. It’s even as simple as riding with your windows down. Make a playlist and go on a short road trip to a new spot in your state.

These are just a few of many ways to welcome the spring and let go of the winter but don’t just sit around and let the season happen to you. Spring is a great transition from harsh cold to beating the heat. This means that some days will be warm and others will still express the lingering chill from the winter. Spring weather calls for change and flexibility. So do you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
