According to the rest of the world, it's been winter for the past few months. As a southern California native I have no idea what this “winter" is that everyone's been speaking of, but as far as I've gathered it generally means colder temperatures, more clothing, and something called “snow." We officially made the transition from winter to spring on March 20, and this has been met with mixed reviews. Some people celebrate the new season and the official excuse to exclusively wear florals, while others grumble about the hot weather and the onslaught of allergies. Which season really is better? Let's take a look at some of the factors.
Weather.
This applies more to the rest of the world, but winter and spring have very different weather. While in southern California the transition from winter to spring is a transition from mildly chilly to lovely and warm, other parts of the world get to see the snow melt into flowers and sunshine. A little bit of snow (as in: enough to get school cancelled and make a snow fort) can be fun, but the insane blizzards that the East Coast saw this winter looked like the opposite of fun. Who wants weather so bad that you can't even leave your house?

Clothing.
If you hop over to Pinterest, you'll see hundreds of boards dedicated to the seasons and how to perfectly dress for them. Winter style is all about layering: pants, boots, fluffy socks, scarves, hats, coats, and of course SWEATERS. There's a bit less variety in spring: it's all about tank tops, shorts, skirts and, of course, the holy sundress. Each style is attractive in its own way, and while I personally am partial to the ease of spring clothes, winter clothes offer not only variety but also comfort and camouflage. There isn't anywhere to hide your late-night pizzas when you're rocking high-waisted shorts and a crop top.

Food.
If you're hoping to learn which crops are in season during the winter and which are in season during the spring, I'm sorry to let you down. What I'm referring to are the types of snacks one typically eats during each season. Winter is all about the hot, cozy foods. Winter is a time to bake cookies, drink hot beverages and eat warm soup. Spring, on the other hand, is all about the cool treats on hot days. Spring is when you eat ice cream, Popsicles, and shaved ice. Warm, gooey cookies versus cold, hard Popsicles? No contest.

Things to do.
I'll be frank: there is absolutely nothing to do in winter. While I love lying in my bed reading books or watching Netflix, eventually I need to get out and face the real world, and it's tough when there's nothing out there for me. Spring, on the other hand, is like that overenthusiastic babysitter who keeps throwing activities at you. Spring is the time for music festivals, the beach, and spending time outdoors.

Look at that, it's a tie! Each season has its own challenges and rewards. But right now it's spring, so get off your computer, put on a floral sundress (even if you're male; the floral sundress knows no bounds), and head outside to enjoy the sunshine!
