The Best Things About Spring Break RANKED

After an exhausting week of cramming for midterms in the library and fueling your body with chicken-flavored ramen, the moment you’ve been waiting for is finally here: Spring Break.

If you were living in on-campus housing, escaping from dorm life adds an entirely new set of things to be excited about. You don't have to pay for laundry, you can access a bathroom that isn’t shared by 10 other people, and you can sleep in a room that isn’t cohabitated with a roommate that snores like a grizzly bear.

Between the home-cooked meals and seeing old friends, it's difficult to decide: what’s the best thing about Spring Break? Here’s the countdown:

6. No Responsibilities

There’s no doubt about it- the perfect week is one where you don’t have to wake up at ungodly hours to listen to your professors drone on about information you’ve already forgotten. No tests. No essays. No office hours. Perhaps there’s a project that’s due the week you return, but obviously, you’re not going to worry about it until you get back to school. It’s just you and mind-numbing activities for seven days of pure bliss.

Maybe you’ve got a part-time job back home, or you have errands to run, but as long as your nose isn’t buried in a textbook at 1 a.m., nothing can stress you.

5. Your Room

Especially if you’re returning from the tiny prison cell your college calls a dorm, your room back home is just what you needed. A comfortable space all to your own, where all your clothes are in one place and that embarrassing poster still hangs on your wall. No longer are you sharing a room with another person, or hearing your housemate's music through the thin apartment walls at 2 a.m.

4. Reuniting with your Dog

You FaceTimed your dog from college and begged your sibling to text you pictures of them every few days, but none of these temporary substitutions can replace cuddling on the couch with your favorite furry friend. You were away from them so long you were even starting to miss the slobber and fur all over your sweaters (thank you trusty lint roller). So when you finally arrive home from college, your favorite sight is their tail wagging at light speed as soon as they see you.

3. Reuniting with your Hometown Friends

You love your college friends, but you can’t wait to catch up with your friends from back home. These are the type of friends that you can go weeks without seeing, but when you finally reunite it’s like no time has passed at all. These are the friends from high school and even middle school, the kids that lived down the block, the ones from your sucky part-time job or that summer you spent as a lifeguard. When there's seemingly nothing to do in your town, you know you can call them up and have a great time.

2. A Destination Trip

Whether you’ve planned to soak up the sun on a lavish cruise or shred down a mountain at a ski resort, spring break means an unforgettable adventure. Your week consists of countless Insta-worthy pictures, tasty drinks, and having the best possible time every second of every day. Yeah, you’ve spent a chunk of your savings on that shopping spree in NYC or the plane ticket to Cancun, but you’re coming back with an envious tan and stories that you’ll tell for the rest of your life.

1. Spending Time With Family

As sappy as this sounds, there’s nothing better than seeing mom and dad (and even your annoying siblings) after spending weeks away from home. Even if you’re putting up with dumb jokes or some nagging about how long your hair is, your parents welcome you home with open arms (and an open fridge full of food) every time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
