Spring Break is right around the corner. I just can't wait to have the week of a lifetime with my best friends at a lavish resort in the Caribbean ... oh wait, that's not my reality. It seems like everyone has these insanely fun plans mapped out. If it's not the typical beach thing, it's a ski trip to Colorado or a mission trip to a third world country. Well, I unfortunately am not one of those people. So if you happen to be like me, with a desire to make the most of your week --long reprieve from school, but without the wherewithal to make anything legendary happen, here are a few inexpensive and easy ideas concerning what to do with your SB2k16.
1. Visit your friends that go to other schools (stipulation: this only works if your spring breaks happen to fall on different weeks).
2. DIY all the crafts. Actually execute that project you pinned 127 weeks ago.
3. Do odd jobs to make ca$h so next spring break you won't need to reference this article. Babysitting, lawn mowing, dog walking, unicycling, etc.
4. Volunteer at your local animal shelter, nursing home, or library. You might as well use your time to give back to the community that raised you.
5. Read a book that's been recommended to you.
6. Netflix marathon (it's debatable whether this counts as "making the most of" your break or not).
7. Apply for a summer job or internship to avoid winding up stuck in your current situation again.
8. Exercise in a way you haven't before: Zumba, yoga, pilates, cycling class, sumo wrestling, you name it.
9. Help out at your home church. Churches can always use a good food pantry re-organization.
10. Plant a garden (not recommended if you are a college student and will be abandoning said garden in a matter of days).
11. Job shadow someone in your potential line of work, if you can get the hook up.
12. Spend time with your family. Have a game night, make dinner for them, or try something new together.
13. Go to a museum. Museums are often only visited on vacations, field trips, or as extra credit. Little known fact: they can actually be super fascinating. Chances are, your town/city has one that you may have never been to.
14. Go to an amusement park and ride something you've always been too scared to ride. In the "turn up" spirit of SB, ya feel me?
15. Go camping. It's cheap, it's outdoorsy as can be, and it's a blast to do with friends. (Pro tip: take a Boy Scout, ideally Eagle, with you if you are a first-timer).
16. Memorize lyrics to a fast rap part of a song so next time it comes on in public you can impress everyone with your mad skills.
17. Acquire a new skill. Ideas that come to mind are: calligraphy, conquering the Rubik's cube, folding an origami flower, learning to play an instrument, or frat snapping.
If all else fails, sleep is always good.
Kidding, get out there and do something with your life.
