Lacrosse is a sport that is so under appreciated. This sport has been around as long as Indians have. It has modernized exceptionally. Below is an example of an old lacrosse stick. Lacrosse is action packed, involves contact, and is a great activity to get involved in. Most communities have a recreation team in their town. These programs focus on the fundamentals every players needs to know about how the game is played. Of course, once high school starts, it becomes more competitive and serious. Starting freshman year is a great idea because people who do that mostly need work on fundamentals.
I am writing this article to spread more awareness on lacrosse. This sport personally means so much to me and I believe it has the capability to be as important to America's society like football or baseball. The problem is, it does not get as much publicity as those other sports. Also, lacrosse does not get support from towns. People would much rather spend money on new footballs for the team or t-shirts for the thirty kids playing soccer on one team.
Lacrosse is slowly starting to arise and become popular. The MLL has helped advertise a lot about lacrosse. The camps they host have recruited players. Girls lacrosse is not getting as much attention. It is much more difficult to find a girl with a whole spring season because they probably started softball at age ten. Growing this sport and making it more public will start to get the younger generation to start early on.
Most children when they are in elementary school go to play football, soccer, softball, or baseball because those are the most common sports. As lacrosse is slowly rising, no one wants to be the odd man out and try something new. Gym classes will do frisbee, football, hockey, wiffle ball, and other cheap and affordable necessities for these activities. Plastic lacrosse sticks with tennis balls is a cheap investment to really think about. If teachers in the schools do this and advertise this sport well enough, kids will sign up in their local towns.
As a lacrosse player myself, I know how little attention the sport gets. This sport is so easy to get hooked on and have a passion for. That is why I want this sport to grow. It really brings people together and is so enjoyable to play on a nice spring afternoon or in the summer.
