Have your parents ever told you that you should stick to your local community college to save money? Well, my parents told me that every day. I listened to them and decided to do one semester and then transfer to my dream school. Below are seven reasons why you should attend at least one semester at a smaller college:

1. It prepares you to succeed at a University.

I decided to spend my first semester of college at my local community college. It helped me adjust to the college life and I was able to set my GPA. My admissions counselor was very kind and gave me encouraging advice to succeed at a four year university.

2. You are in classes with people that you grew up with.

The two classes that I took had many people that I knew and used to hang out with. I was very glad to re-connect with them. Plus, I could just shoot a text if I missed a class and needed notes.

3. You can keep your job and make steady income!

I realized that I had lots of time on my hand when I wasn't in class or studying, so I picked up a job of officiating volleyball games. I was so glad I did because the extra money helped in so many ways!

4. It saves you money!

Because I went to a community college for my first semester, I saved over $15,000. Tuition at a community college is much cheaper. I think my tuition for one semester was at most $1,000. While money is not an issue for some people, I highly recommend taking a few classes at your local college.

5. You can spend time with your family!

While I am going to be five hours away from my family for the spring semester, I was very blessed to spend my freshman fall semester with my parents and my little sister. I made lots of memories and it meant that I didn't have to be independent yet.

6. Exams are easier!

I don't know how it works at other colleges, but the professors that taught my classes made the final examinations very simple and easy. Also, there weren't any quizzes or homework that I had to do.

7. You are more likely to get away with having food and drinks in class!

I had some friends that attended a four year university that told me they were not allowed to have any type of food in the classroom with them. They told me this every time I sent them a picture over Snapchat of my frozen hot chocolate from Dunkin' Donuts. Let's just say they got pretty jealous.

If you are deciding on whether to start at a local community college or not, I hope these 7 reasons help you process your decision and make the best choice for you!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
