A Sorority Girl's Guide To The Perfect Beach Day

It's beach season and for us sorority girls, this is our time to shine. We can officially break out the painted coolers, Vineyard Vines hats and monogrammed totes. It is time to dust off the selfie sticks and gather our squads. This season will be filled with endless candid moments and plenty of opportunities to throw what we know at all times.

As written in the unofficial sorority bible: every beach day is a photo opportunity. We need to make sure we take complete advantage of every beach trip this season. So, from one sorority girl to another, here are a few tips to help us take beach season by a perfect sratty-storm:

1. GoPro

Since it's beach season, you know recruitment is right around the corner. Now is the time to get those not-so candid pictures of your crew throwing what you know while looking effortlessly dope on oversized floaties that clearly don't belong in the ocean. *Insert underwater-throw what you know-picture here*

2. Always wear a hat

This is the cardinal rule. This can't be just any hat, oh no. If it doesn't proudly have your chapter's letters stitched on the front, you might as well stay home. Pink whales are also acceptable and you get bonus points for bucket hats.

3. Selfie stick

Yes, I'm serious. There is no better way to catch the perfect squad pic than with a selfie stick. You'll be able to squeeze everyone and their bucket hats in with ease, which makes for the best super-srat-squad-shoot.

4. Bring a cooler

This goes without saying: the cooler must be painted. Get it painted for you by your favorite fraternity's pledges...or heck, paint it yourself. Show the world that you are the coolest (pun intended) and srattiest girls on that beach. Honestly, you don't even have to fill it. As long as you carry it with you at all times.

5. Monogrammed everything

Because how else are you supposed to tell your Vera Bradley tote from all of the others? I mean, are you even in a sorority if you don't have matching Lilly Pulitzer monograms on your water bottle, laptop and phone case? No. The answer is no.

6. Perfect playlist

The most important part of the perfect beach day is the playlist. With the right balance of party jams and feel-good throwbacks, the ultimate beach playlist is the cherry on top of this beach season. Now crank up the tunes and get ready to soak up the sun in true sorority girl-style. *cue sappy recruitment video music*

Keep this list in mine while preparing for your ultimate sratty summer. Nothing makes for a better memory (or candid pic to brag about later) than being completely prepared in all the right ways.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
