In today's society, it is very easy to get caught up in everything. We try to fit as much into a day as we can. With everything we try to do, we often forget to take a breath and see the world around us. If we take a step back, we might realize some of the things we get caught up in aren't important. Sometimes a breather is all you need to find what is important to you.

With societal pressures, I believe we want to accomplish as much as we can. We get caught up in quantity, not quality. We think we are putting our best work out there because of the number, but we really are just pushing out content that lacks amazing qualities. It's hard to take a step back and decide where we should place our energy. We have to prioritize what is important and what can be pushed to the side. Yet when we step back and breathe, we find what we truly desire. Then we are able to create the quality content we want to put out into the world.

I also think we are scared of idle time. People perceive personal time as something negative. We all need time to ourselves to just breathe. When we are constantly buzzing around, we ignore our mental needs. We all feel stress. We all feel the pressure of those around us. When we have a chance to step back and breathe, we can relax our mind and bring it to peace. In that time of tranquility, it is easier to reevaluate our days and cut out all of the negativity. We need to allow that empty time and not make it out to be bad.

Breathing also allows us to regulate ourselves. From meditation and yoga to running and lifting, breathing allows us to clear our mind. The intake of oxygen fills our lungs and feeds our brain. When we focus on the inhale and the exhale, we become fully aware of ourselves. We feel everything, and we are aware of everything. It clears our thoughts and allows only the important ones to flourish. When that is the mindset we are in, we radiate positive energy into our world.

Amit Ray once said: "Breath is the finest gift of nature. Be grateful for this wonderful gift." This quote really shows the importance of breathing. When we realize how truly amazing breathing can be for us, we are granted the positivity it brings for our whole life. In allows us to live, but it also allows us to be ourselves. It can help us learn what is important to us, and it can help us to live in a positive mindset. When in times of stress and urgency, don't forget to breathe! Sometimes a few deep breathes is all you need.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
