Horseback riding is a sport that has been around for hundreds of years. The only difference between then and now is that most people do it today recreationally instead of relying on them for transportation. Now, those of you who have ridden before know exactly what I am talking about in my list. For those who may have never ridden before, or even considered it, I would strongly ask you to reconsider, here's why:

1. No Age Limit

It doesn't matter when someone begins to ride. For some they begin at 6, while others may not begin until 16. Not only can one start riding at any age, but you can continue riding throughout your life. No age limit exists, and it is not a sport one can no longer do when they get older

2. Multiple Disciplines

When talking to a horseback rider, it will become apparent quickly what their discipline is. What I mean by this is that some riders jump, some do eventing, some dressage, some are western riders and partake in rodeos. Basically, not every rider does the same thing, and some, like myself, do multiple disciplines. There truly are no limitations in this sport!

3. Best Friend For Life

You will find no friend more loyal than a horse. They keep all your secrets, always tell you the truth, and will love you unconditionally. It is a high honor to receive the trust of a horse, because animals are the best judge of character.

4. Highly Addictive

A popular quote about horseback riding is "More addictive than cocaine, and twice as expensive." Now, I don't know about the cocaine part, but I can voug for the fact that this is one of the most addictive activities in the world, and I LOVE IT!!!

5. Horses Don't Care about Looks

Horses don't care what you look like, how tall your are, what language you speak, or how many friends you have. If you treat them right, they'll treat you right. This is a sport where you are judged on your skill, not by whether or not you look like you can do. If you can do what the judge is asking for, then you've done everything right.

6. Your only competition is yourself

In the equestrian world, your biggest competition is who you were yesterday. Yes, there may be other people competing against you in a show, but none of that matter so long as you and your horse give it your best.

7. You don't have to Compete

Most people know of horseback riding from seeing the competitions on TV. This is the half of it though, as there are plenty of other people who ride just for the fun of it and have no intentions of competing. Every person is different, and as not everyone is super competitive, then it opens up a whole second area of seeing that you can simply pleasure ride.

8. Horses are a Reflection of yourself

Every second you spend with a horse is anything but a waste. What you put into them is exactly what you will get back. When you work hard and are motivated, you will motivate them and make them realize they are not pulling all the weight in your team.

9. Every Horse is Different

No two horses are the same, and this is a fundamental rule in the equestrian world. You could have two horses that look so similar, but you couldn't be any further from the truth. Just as each person is as unique as the next, so are horses.

10. It is Just Plain Fun

Overall, people ride to just have fun. It's all about the relationship you develop with your horse and always bettering yourself as a rider. If riding isn't fun, then none of the other reasons I mentioned matter. This is fundamental to enjoying any other aspect of this sport.

So, if you are like me, then you have been riding for years, and hopefully you agree with everything I mentioned. If you haven't ridden before, I strongly recommend it; I can guarantee that it is an experience you will never forget.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
