Society is something we all hear about when something goes wrong in the world. When there is a suicide because of body issues everyone always points to society, "Oh, they were beautiful, if only society had left them alone."
Society is the reason there are rude and discriminating remarks all over social media and the reason we turn against each other when something goes wrong. Society has been what we blame every crude remark, body shaming, or even eating disorders on since I or any one my age can remember. I can remember seeing post after post of how wrong the ideals of Society are, how they corrupt the minds of innocent children, and how it causes the deaths of so many beautiful souls. Society isn't what causes the loss of the beautiful souls or the hateful words, because Society doesn't exist.
Society is something that was created to be a scapegoat, so that when bad things happened, we would have someone to blame. Society isn't just one person, it is all of us, all of the bad we wish we could stop from occurring. The truth is Society has always been around, it wasn't just created when the internet and social media came to be, however it hasn't always had a name. Society is all of our gossip, our disapproving looks, and our judging mentality that corrupts our lives. Therefore to make the changes we want we have to look within ourselves and change how we view certain aspects of life.
This change we wish to see within Society will be a hard feat to accomplish. For years these negative thoughts have plagued us, but with small changes we can make the impossible seem possible. The smallest things can change a person's outlook on the world; if we compliment instead of degrade a person, send a smile instead of a frown, or even just hold a door open for one another we can begin to make the positive changes the world needs. Kindness won't solve all of the words problems, but it can make a person who feels worthless feel like they matter. That is exactly the change we always hear someone mention when they talk about the ill effects of Society.
Grace Lee Boggs once said, "You cannot change any society unless you take responsibility for it, unless you see yourself as belonging to it and responsible for changing it."
If we can work to reverse the effects of Society with small kind gestures, we can change the attitude of the world we just have to realize the role we play. There won't be as much bullying, suicide, persecution, and degrading a persons spirit if the world knew just a little more kindness.
Kindness won't end world hunger or create world peace but it can boost the impact of change. With this change we won't see all that we have become so accustomed to seeing. We can't change the world over night but we can create a domino effect of kindness that will impact all of our lives.
