1. Hometown best friend.
A hometown best friend is one of the best kinds. Every time you become a little homesick or need a piece of home, you have her. You can talk to this person about literally anything and they'll know what you're talking about. I could go up to my hometown best friend and tell her a story about the Trail, but unless you're from my small town you'll have no idea what I'm talking about. Being able to call or FaceTime your person version of home is the best.
2. Basically sister best friend.
This person is pretty much your soul mate. Whether or not this person has met your family, you bet they know all their names. Your sister best friend could basically tell your life story because you've already had that semi-awkward but not really awkward cry session about your ex's, your family, finals, etc. One of the best vent partners is in this person.
3. Actual sister best friend.
This best friend could be a biological sister or even a sorority sister. Either way, this person has been through it all. They've been through the breakups, the fights, the stolen clothes, and so much more. This person very well may be in your wedding party. Remember to always show your love and appreciation because they'll show it back.
4. Roommate best friend.
When best friends want to take their relationship to the best friend version of the next level, you move in together. Or if you're like me, you get randomly paired with a girl who magically becomes the other half of your soul. Being a roommate with your best friend is like being married. You may argue, but at the end of the day you're best friends and you love each other. Plus, you have someone to share half of the grocery list. I've personally gotten a phone call or two while heading to the store to pick up some groceries and at the end of the phone call I got a “Thanks honey! Bye!" That's how roommate best friends do it.
5. Guy best friend.
Guy best friends are the best. There is literally no difference between a guy best friend and a girl best friend, but if you're really lucky, it can be so much more. A guy best friend can easily become a boyfriend because he literally knows everything about you. Maybe it doesn't always work like that, but if you get a guy best friend, don't let him go! Not even for the random boyfriend who tries to tell you that you can't have guy friends.
BONUS: Couple best friends.
This kind of best friend is the perfect kind to vent to. Your significant other did something stupid? You know this person knows all about it and will be helping you through it (maybe even plotting the revenge). You can count on your couple best friend to be your other half on double dates, and if you're really lucky, they'll even be your other half beyond that.
