To My Sister Who is Struggling to Finish High School

You're almost there.

To My Sister Who is Struggling to Finish High School

These past few months have been brutal. They have been mornings in which you can't seem to get out of bed, they have been days that you have left school and did not return until the next day. As a kid you were so bright, you excelled in all your classes and left my parents in awe. I want you to know that I have been there, in fact, we all have. We have been shattered by test scores and failed papers but you will get past it. You have grown into an amazing person and so compassionate; I understand that parents are tough, they expect nothing but the best from you. What you don't understand is that this is all expected because of what you have demonstrated to be capable of. I know that it sometimes feels as if you are shouting into the void and no one seems to believe that you can, and will become someone. That my dear sister is the purpose behind all of it. I want to you to realize that I am here for you although it may seem that many times all I intend to do is sabotage you, it is truly the complete opposite. I am not the greatest or smartest person but I am your sister and want nothing more than to see you walk across that stage and to see you go on to college, just like you have always wanted. I believe in you. Stop worrying about the Facebook likes and the unnecessary gossip, and disappointing boys. Get rid of all the bad that caused this in the first place and WAKEUP! Look around you, this is life, where you can achieve your goals even after being knocked down time after time. So, get out of bed, read a book (or two), educated yourself and just graduate.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
