I could rant about all the ways my life has changed this year, but that's why I have a blog (plus you'd be bored). Instead I'm going to talk about ways that YOU can help change your life for the better if you feel like you're not at where you want to be.
First off, let's be real. We are college kids so we aren't exactly doing what we want to be doing. I, myself have been having the travel bug constantly. Seeing my friends on social media going to places, experiencing new things, has me envious. If you're like me then take the plunge and apply to study abroad. I honestly believe going to Italy next year will be life changing and I'm so excited! Or if going to a new country sounds scary as hell then plan out weekends during the month to go on little adventures. Taking a significant other or best friend on a road trip and jamming out to tunes seems like a great cure for the travel bug.
Second, mix up your routine. Let's say every Friday you go to the same bar or party with the same group of people. Do something different! I swear the smallest things can make a profound impact on your life. Having various groups of friends is always healthy. For college sake, mix up your routine after your classes. If you go to the gym every day at 4, then maybe switch it to a different time, doing a different type of class, and maybe with a friend.
Third, take time for yourself. Waking up thirty minutes to an extra hour early can help you start your day in a positive way. It lets you take a longer shower, eat breakfast (if you usually skip) or a better breakfast, read a little bit of your favorite novel, or do some meditation. At night, consider taking a bath to relax your body, surrounding yourself with candles of delightful aromas, or watching your favorite movie. This will give you a simple feeling of happiness before you drift off to sleep.
Fourth, do something that scares you. Whether it's getting a journal and beginning to write every day or joining an organization you thought would never fit your personality. Anything that puts you out there is an amazing feeling. If we all stayed in our little world then no one would network or communicate. Doing something that scares you can push you in all new directions. It may even help you find yourself.
I've learned these things over the past year from sophomore to now junior year. They have been helping me turn into the person I'm proud of. Sometimes it feels like you're stuck or not happy with your life, but pushing yourself to change can be the best thing. One of the best role models I've ever had told me, "You are your only enemy. You are the only one keeping yourself from moving forward."
