How confident are you?

5 Signs of True Confidence

How many of us can actually say that we are confident with who we are? Some seem to hold true confidence..but do they have any insecurities at all? The vast majority of the earth's population is very insecure and has low self esteem. But the vast majority of the earth's population is very confident as well. We are both, somewhere in between on the scale I guess you could say. But how many of us are TRULY confident about ourselves? Here are a few signs that I believe in, in truly being confident.

1. Looking in the Mirror:

Are you happy with what you see? Do you always second guess your hair style or your outfit for the day? Are you scared to walk out of the house? Do you change your outfit? Are you instantly judging your appearance? Then, you my friend, are not truly confident in yourself. But, this can change.

2. Do you compare yourself to others:

Comparing yourself to your friends, or even just people around you is not being confident at all. What I learned is, there will always be someone prettier, more attractive than you. Someone will always be slimmer, more fit than you. But it's YOU who chooses to let that bring you down. Own yourself and how you look, otherwise you will never succeed.

3. Being Independent:

Being independent from the outside world is always a confidence booster. Being assertive and stepping out of your comfort zone helps. I know from personal experience, doing things that you wouldn't normally do, helps you understand your worth. Talking and meeting people that you never thought you would meet, stepping up to the plate and standing up for yourself and your beliefs and letting others know how you feel are all part of being independent. So, if you are independent, then you're confident as well.

4. Constant Envy:

Do you envy others? Envy is obviously a sign that you do not have very much confidence in yourself. Wanting what others have, how they look, etc, is not good for yourself. Being able to look at someone and not be jealous? Now that's impossible. But constant envy is not healthy.

5. Accepting compliments, but also accepting criticism:

Being able to accept compliments is a huge deal. Not most of us can accept a compliment without feeling lower about themselves. But, being able to accept criticism is just as big of a deal. if you can not accept any criticism without feeling some type of way, then you can not better yourself.

Through my journey and becoming more confident with myself, these key points have helped me along the way. I hope it can help you too!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
