Growing up and going to school in the greater Atlanta area meant a lot of things, but mostly it meant you went on at least one field trip in which The Varsity was involved as a lunch destination. Most of us didn't live downtown (or even close to it if it was any time around rush hour honestly), but there are definitely some commonalities between those of us who grew up in the Atlanta area. Here are some of the signs you grew up in the ATL.
1. Despite living outside the perimeter, you reply "Atlanta" or "just outside Atlanta" when people ask where you're from.
2. When you're in a public place and the song "Welcome to Atlanta" comes on, you get so unbelievably hype and then proceed to rap (scream) as much of the song as you can. Mostly the chorus.
"AND PARTIES DON'T STOP 'TIL 8 IN THE MORNIN'!"
3. You went to Atlantic Station with your friends in high school and truly felt as though you were experiencing "city life."
This trip was probably complete with an ice cream stop at Kilwins. You just can't say no to that place.
4. You've probably been to World of Coke, the Georgia Aquarium, or the CNN Center on a field trip at some point.
5. It could take you 15-20 minutes to get to downtown, and an hour and a half to get home. Classic rush hour.
We've gone a mile in the last 12 minutes. That's progress.
6. High school football rivalries were probably a little too intense. Friendships may have been compromised due to this intensity.
A little extreme, don't you think?
7. You have a love/hate relationship with Atlanta sports.
Atlanta sports teams are like a really annoying child. So frustrating... but you have to love them anyway.
8. Whenever you hear Atlanta being referenced in a rap song, you feel a beaming sense of pride.
Yes, Lil Jon-- sing to me about the wonders of my homeland.
9. You've attended your fair share of concerts at Lakewood Amphitheater--- and probably used the restroom beforehand at that sketchy gas station across the street from that one parking lot.
You know the one I'm talking about.
10. You remember the good ol' days of 95.5 The Beat.
"You just got HIT UP ON THAT BOOTY CALL!"
11. In the early days of high school, you went downtown for the day with your friends, only to realize you had no idea to do once you got there.
Should we go shopping? Get food? Walk around? I don't know.
