As a college senior applying to college, or as a college kid, or even as a child, we are all assumed to have this "life plan." As if somehow we know exactly what we're going to do for the rest of our lives. Or at least what we want to do for the rest of our lives. But that's not realistic. Yes, there are some people who know what they want and continue on that path to achieve those goals. However, many of us aren't totally sure, which is why we get education and go to college and work at new jobs, so we can see what our best path may be. Though, here are a few main reasons why you shouldn't worry if you don't have a step-by-step plan in life.
Many people change their mind and their major.
I know someone who changed their major five times in college. I came into school myself as an English major, and in just one semester decided to double major in psychology. And my mind might change again. That's OK! This is what college is for — so we can discover our interests, talents and abilities.
You have so many years to do so many things. You are young.
At 16, 18 or even 25, you don't need to know what you'll be doing for the rest of your life. You have years and years to figure it out. And you have years and years to change your mind!
Life should be spontaneous.
Life is a gift — and a gift we shouldn't take advantage of. If you know exactly what you want to do, that's awesome, but still live freely. Do things you wouldn't expect to do. Find other interests out of your comfort zone. Don't just have a schedule for every day and live that out for the rest of your life.
