A Short Rant About The Presidential Candidates Of 2016
Spencer Vitaliy Elliott

Let me just jump in.

A problem I have with Trump is that, as far as being an observer goes (although I have much more information and insight, and am just simplifying my position for this post), it seems that no one, not even he, can hold him responsible for what he says. If he says something awful about a war hero and his family, we're not supposed to take it seriously. If he tells his followers to attack someone and they do, well it's not his fault, and if he says something that is patently not true, then we're supposed to just have assumed he was being sarcastic or making a point.

But here's the thing, if Trump supporters can push aside all the things he says and pretend that none of it actually means anything, then we lose the mechanism in democracy that vets bad candidates from the process. I mean, he really doesn't have any actual policies put forward, and all we're left with is empty promises. Trump supporters either have to admit that they support him because he, like them, is racist and purposely inflammatory, or they have to admit that they are voting for a completely under qualified, corrosive, and patently uninformed candidate just because they dislike Clinton.

It's like stubbing your toe, and because you don't trust aspirin, you cut off your foot, because at least amputation isn't a mainstream way of dealing with injuries.

Now, one could argue, “Well Hillary is a criminal” and the people who usually say that tend to have no reasoning for it. Technically, what she did was careless, but there isn’t any proof that she “intended to be disloyal to the United States or that she intended to obstruct justice.” What she did, in fact, was a blunder, but the reason this isn’t criminal is because there was no intent behind it. To her, it was simply a more convenient way of sending emails. Now, this may seem like a big deal, but in the long run, she didn’t do anything out of the ordinary, as PolitiFact brought up. In fact, the Bush Administration had the same problem.

So why are we focusing on Clinton? Well, it’s juicier and ever since the Republicans have realized that they’re losing the respect of the country by moving further to the right, they’ve done everything to malign those who call them out for their inefficiency and inability to understand what the average person goes through.

So where does this short rant leave us? Well, it leaves us at the point where people can continue to be angry at Clinton for a foolish mistake and still support someone who just says random things and doesn’t actually have anything but empty and vague promises, or they can actually educate themselves and support different people, and maybe not support such a ridiculous beast as the Republican party.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
