At 19 years old Lonzo Ball is expected to be a high draft choice in the upcoming NBA draft. He was rated the No. 4 player nationally in his high school class by ESPN.com and Rivals.com and was tabbed the No. 7 player by Scout.com. He went on to play at UCLA picking up accolades and awards while there when he was only 19 years old.
In his lone season Ball averaged 14.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and a nation-leading 7.6 assists per game while starting all 36 games and leading the UCLA Bruins to a 31-5 season record and a spot in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament. While we all know the story about the Phenom of Lonzo, we know him for a few other reasons besides being the star basketball player.
For anyone who has followed basketball, you know the Ball family, especially the father Lavar. Lavar is known for his outbursts and claiming that he can beat Michael Jordan (arguably the best basketball player of all time) in a game of basketball. Lavar has been coaching his sons to become great at basketball and even started a brand for them called Big Baller Brand which was founded on core family values and inspired by the 3 Ball brothers from Chino Hills, California. Ball claims he wants his sons to be the best and will stop at nothing until they deserve the rightful attention. It has seemed to work because now many people who follow sports know about the Ball family.
Last week the Baller Brand decided to release their premiere shoes. When the shoes were released last week they were announced to be available in three models:
"WET - our personally Autographed Memorabilia Edition;
PRIME, our Flagship Model;
ZO2: Signature Slides."
Lavar Ball released a picture of his son modeling the Prime shoes on Twitter and the shoes are available from the price of $495 to $695. In the past week since the debut there have been 500 pairs of shoes sold.
As a 21-year-old, I used to worry about the brands. I focused on what I needed to wear to fit in with other people instead of what worked best for me. Since I have entered college I have looked at shopping differently and don’t really care about a specific brand but what I do care about are how well the clothing and footwear will work for me. I have decided that while it is great to be able to have nice and expensive things there is nothing wrong with getting things that are less expensive and don’t have as popular of a reputation as others.
While Lonzo Ball is only 19 and he still has much to learn, he can proudly say that his shoes sold over 500 pairs in the first week. Ball has potential and a great career ahead of him and he is taking the first steps there by establishing a name for himself and brand. People will only become more familiar with Lonzo Ball and it will increase revenue for his brand and help him accomplish more for marketing.
