Throughout life, we meet people who may try to bring us down, hurt us either intentionally or accidentally, and may bring out a lack of confidence in ourselves. When I look in the mirror, that person is myself. Leon Brown once said, "You are your worst enemy. It is your negative thoughts that hold you back, nothing else."
You can forgive others for the wrongdoings they may commit to you, but sometimes the hardest person to forgive is yourself. I can give advice to other people, but sometimes I find it hard to listen to my own thoughts. Self-doubt and disbelief sometimes overcome my thoughts, and in result, I am left with a larger barrier to overcome than I had began with.
At first, a letter to myself consists of a "hang in there, you'll be okay", but aren't life's struggles and challenges so much deeper than that? In serious reflection and thought, this is list of honest things I need to remind myself, and maybe you do, too.
1. Don't be so hard on yourself. Not everything is your fault, not every bad thing that happens to you was caused by you. Life has a way of throwing curveballs at you, but you don't have to stand at the plate waiting for them to hit you. Swing, and if you miss, just keep on swinging.
2. Love a little harder. Don't be afraid to text someone you miss them, swallow a little pride and have faith that whoever it is you miss, misses you back. Do something nice for someone, and do it today. Be a good friend and be there for the ones that love you because you love them back.
3. Live in the moment. Stop worrying about that test next week or that assignment due in a couple of days. Get off of your phone, off your butt, and go do something today that you have been waiting to do. At the least, you deserve to have a little fun.
4. Keep going. You've gotten knocked down before, and you've gotten back up before. It's inevitable it will happen, it's truly just a matter of when and how long you'll be knocked down. You'll get back up, and you'll get up better than ever. Believe in yourself for once.
5. Have a little confidence. You don't realize your worth sometimes, and that's okay because everyone has been there, but don't let that get you down. You are strong, unique, and beautiful in your own ways, and you'll learn to love and appreciate all of the amazing things about yourself with time. Sometimes, things can be nerve wracking and it's easy to put that doubt in your mind, just know everything you've worked for and want in your life will come if it's supposed to. Just don't ever stop trying.
6. Be yourself, and be proud of it. Not everyone is going to like who you are or what you do, and THAT IS OKAY. You are you, and that is the most important thing that you could be. You will find the right people who will love you for who you are, and if they don't, maybe they just weren't right to be in your life at that time. At the end of the day, you'll love being you rather than pretending to be someone you're not.
