My mom says during busy times in a person's life, every now and then it's beneficial to “fill your tank.” Just to take a few moments to relax, recharge, and hopefully feel a little more fulfilled. And with finals week at RIC, having brief moments of me time is essential to not lose your mind. Here are some tips for self care during and post finals week.

1. It's okay to indulge.

While it is important to eat healthy during finals week, sometimes your body is craving a bit of comfort food. As a reward for yourself, go and get that candy bar or salty snack you've been pining for after completing an exam or study session.

1. Relax with a hot bath or shower.

There's something about the feeling of being enveloped in water that can lull your brain. Taking a hot bath is a good way to relax your tense body, and for me, taking a hot shower instantly reduces study headaches so I don't need to open the Tylenol. Also, getting clean makes your body feel nice and fresh.

3. Move to Your Own Beat.

Exercising doesn't have to be a hassle. Instead of going to the Rec Center or your local YMCA, do whatever workouts make you happy. Take a walk around campus, do some yoga videos on YouTube, or dance it out in your dorm. Do something fun that will give you a needed dopamine boost.

4. Create a playlist.

Music is a good way to turn out the world and give your mind a treat. Themes for playlists could be boosting self confidence, wallowing in self pity, raging at the universe, or just something to put your mind at ease. Music is personal, so create something you think you will need in the moment.

5. Hit Up Your Squad.

During finals week, we all face times of thinking “I can't do this, why was I even born???” But when you don't believe in yourself, there is always someone who does when you need it most. Go on Skype, FaceTime, or make a phone call to those people who have your back. They'll pump you up and you'll feel like a million bucks.

6. Snuggle, snuggle, snuggle.

Snuggling is one of the most calming things you can do because it makes you feel secure. So when you feel like going down for a nap, grab your S.O., BFF, a stuffed animal, or a giant squishy pillow and melt into the mattress.

Good luck to everyone this week! Remember that you are worth it and that it's almost over ;)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
