Every girl knows the feeling of coming home from the longest day ever and hopping into a steaming bubble bath with a huge glass of wine. It is AMAZING. Every working person/student/mother also know those days are few and far between because really...who has the time to veg out for forty-five minutes sipping on wine.
I barely have time to breathe in between school, two jobs, and trying to keep up with my fitness endeavors. Days that I am in bed before 10 p.m. are a rarity and I appreciate them every time they come around. In the midst of all the craziness, I sometimes forget to take a breath and think about the things that I need to make me feel happy/healthy.
It is so easy to just be consumed by the world around you. Moving from one job to the next, and then one assignment to the next one on the list. If you never stop moving, you don't realize how tired you are, and you just power through.
But as we all know...this causes a MAJOR burnout. Not taking the time to make sure that you are taken care of can be really detrimental if you let it be. While it can be hard to relax while knowing all the things you have on your plate, it can make all the difference in the day.
At least once a week, take a minute to evaluate how you're feeling, mentally and physically. Respond to those needs rather than just ignoring them. Indulge in a face mask or two, read two or three chapters out of a book you've been dying to start, or maybe just roll out that yoga mat and get your meditation on.
It doesn't have to be extravagant measures. A little self-pampering goes a long way. You just have to remember to save time out of your day to worry about you. Giving yourself that attention saves you from the burnout, and helps you to really get to know yourself.
