It’s like an instinct or a reflex. Our pupils dilate when we see them and the seal of a once shut mouth suddenly opens into a gaping hole, and then into the cheesiest grin that looks like it belongs in a comic book. There is no control, there is no stopping our obsession, and the force tends to get stronger as we age. This all-encompassing force that binds us to our furry friends is what makes us who we are, and it’s also why our friends love to make jokes where we are the runt of them. Do we care? That would be a no, because we are dog lovers.
In our secret society of all things dogs and love and rainbows, we have basic ground rules. There are the basics like: never wipe off a face kiss (because that is the ultimate sign from our pals that they care for us), any round and circular object (otherwise known as a “ball”) is the universal peace offering and should be used with caution and care, and, of course, always crouch down to their eye level (it is just plain rude to stand when petting and cooing to our friends).
As you all are nodding your head in agreement, I know you will also nod when I say that you would much rather be around dogs than people, basically 100% of the time. Am I right? The good news is that you are not alone. People get complicated, messy, and are downright mean the majority of the time. Obviously the love and support from our buds that bark can’t compare to the human world of adulting. I’m here to tell you that you are not alone in the struggle to live this human life where we are supposed to be kind, helpful, and an example of happiness.
We, the people of the world who care about our fuzzy friends, need to stick together in this world full of negativity and hate. Don’t get me wrong-- we shouldn’t go around licking each others faces. Replace the phrase “licking each other’s faces” with “offering a smile” or “lend a helping hand." Live your life the way a dog would if he or she became human.
Think of your favorite dog that you’ve ever had or come across: the way they greet you when you come home, the random times that they come up to you and put their head on your hand wanting you to pet them, and how if you’re sick, they never leave your side because they know the power of their healing energy that they radiate into you. Imagine how wonderful our world would be if we lived our lives the way dogs lived theirs.
To all my dog loving friends: don’t bark when you get mad, don’t chase after the squirrels you know that are no good for you, and don’t make an idiot out of yourself by chasing your own tail when you get bored. A dog’s life is black and white. Let’s let ours be that simple, too.
