Saying Goodbye To 'The One'

My last words to the one that got away.

Saying Goodbye To 'The One'

I believe that we all have one person, who comes into our lives for a specific reason—that is, to simply teach us how to love and be loved. When you find that person, you never want to let go. So saying goodbye to them can be the hardest thing you have or will ever do, and that says a lot coming from someone who is currently in the process of completing their Ph.D.

I might sound like a hopeless romantic to some, but loving "the one" might sometimes involve being selfless and letting go. So here is my goodbye letter to "the one."

Dear “The One,”

I know saying goodbye isn't easy for you, and it is the hardest thing I will ever do in my life. But I wanted you to know how I will cherish you and all the beautiful memories you gave me, forever.

You have constantly said that I made you feel like you aren't "good enough" for me or haven't "done enough" or I'm not happy with you. This is a reminder to you that you made me feel like the luckiest, most loved, most beautiful, sexiest, and happiest girl in the world. You were enough for me! Please never question that ever! I fell in love with you from the day we met (and I grabbed your butt as a dare!). But the love I feel for you now is so much more meaningful. You have made me fall in love with you more and more each day. I have no regrets in saying those three words—"I love you"—and I will continue to love you forever.

But sometimes life takes us down strange paths, and so as I get ready to say goodbye, I want us to reflect back on the positives. I also wanted to celebrate and acknowledge the love and memories we shared together. So here are some of my most cherished memories of times we have spent together.

1. The night you went down on one knee and asked me to marry you.

I couldn't help but notice, that you did not even have a ring! So you got creative and took the diamond ring I had on my right hand and put it on my left to seal the deal! It was the most unexpected proposal. We both couldn't stop blushing or laughing. That night, you made me feel like the luckiest girl in the world. I'll never forget that night, no matter what happens. I had waited for that moment for a long time, and when it happened, I knew I never wanted to leave your side. I know you have never done it for anyone else, and that's another reason why it was so special. So thank you for the cutest proposal!

2. When you came back from out of town to celebrate Valentine’s Day with me.

We spent the entire night together, dancing and kissing all night long. I still remember that you couldn't stop telling me how much you loved me all night. You made me feel like the most loved girl in the world. I truly felt special every time you looked into my eyes and said those three words: "I love you." I knew then that you were "the one" who would love me and keep me happy forever.

3. At the risk of sounding silly, do you remember the night I was feeling insecure?

I was mad at you for wanting to be a gentleman and pick up a friend of yours before going to the clubs (silly me!). That night in the club, amongst all the noise, you whispered in my ears that you love me and only me. From that point forward, I had nothing to be insecure about. You made me feel like the most beautiful girl in the world just by the way you looked at me. It made me feel like the only person in the room. All my insecurities were gone, and I have always felt secure in this relationship since that night.

4. More recently, the beautiful date night in Venice.

I don't even know how to summarize the memories from that night. I'm just so truly grateful for your love and charm. You even put on your blue blazer and dressed up for our date night in Venice. You took me out on the most romantic date of my life. We ate amazing food, drank wine by the Grand Canal, got dessert, and walked around the beautiful city all night. This was, of course, followed by the most intimate night of our lives. You made me feel like the sexiest girl, even though I'm no match for your passion!

5. Last but not the least, thank you for every day and night that you spent with me!

There is an endless list of things you have done for me, from boat rides to flying home to see me, from listening to me complain about work problems to taking time out to call me and let me know you love and miss me, from fighting with me to fighting for me, from sending me selfies to sending me beautiful words and writing me poems, from singing for me in the middle of the night to dancing with me all night! Your loyalty and love is something I will never forget and will be truly grateful for all my life. You have treated me like a princess and made me the happiest girl in the world. You made me smile; you are my sunshine! I sparkle in your presence. I'm sorry for making you feel inadequate or like I wasn't happy or satisfied. I truly enjoyed every day of being part of your life. All 2,250 days of it!

There are hundreds of these memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life, and I am truly grateful to have had you in my life and been part of your life. You are my best friend and the love of my life. You will always be the sexiest, most loving, most caring, classiest man I know; the best thing that ever happened to me. Thank you for always being there for me. I will miss you and hope you will remember me as a strong beautiful woman who truly loved you. I will remember you as "the one who got away."

I hope you have a beautiful life. Please remember the words of Louise Hay: “Knowing that whatever I need to know is revealed to me, and that whatever I need comes to me in the right time, space and sequence.”

PS: I'll always love you and be here for you if you need your best friend.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
