Many students from a small campus know that rumors spread just as fast as they did in high school. Sometimes these rumors are a good thing. If you help out your friends or are a very social person then your rumors will usually be good and help you to make many friends. However, there are also rumors that are not so nice. You know of these rumors, the ones that can really hurt someone's feelings or shape how they view themselves.
These can not only hurt the student mentally, making their grades suffer and destroying their self-esteem, but they could also hurt them physically. Even at the ages of 18 to 22, we students are still growing into who we are. This is a very influential time in our lives.
I know I had rumors about me floating around campus my first two months, but I later learned that they were positive rumors. I was the kid that was social and hyper. The one that was nice to everyone and would be friends with anyone. Those rumors and comments about me made me a better person, knowing that I had to prove to everyone that I am really like that, that I wasn't pretending or was just the start college excitement making me social and hyper. I am now a very well known person on my small campus, I know many of the other students and can talk to anyone I come across.
My point is that even though I had rumors, they were positive, and helped me to transform into the socialite I am today. I am now an extreme extrovert and enjoy the company of people wherever I go. If I decided to "skip that one event" or "stay in my room tonight" I might have not made the friends I have today.
