Roosevelt Track and Field Summary

The campaign of the Roosevelt Track and Field team during the 2016 spring season came out with several season best performances from the team.

On the men's side, two athletes represented the Lakers, Troy Harness and Dan Lim. Harness is a distance specialist, while Lim is a sprint and hurdle specialist. While the two athletes were on their own for the season, they manage to make points in the team scoring as a team in 4 out of the 5 indoor invitationals. Harness competed in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, while Dan only competed during indoor. During indoor, Harness ran the 800M, 1500M (Mile), 3K and 5K races, and Lim ran hurdles and 200M. Harness performances resulted him with great times like the 5:01 mile he ran at Olivet Nazarene in a very dense field of competitors. Lim ran the 55M High Hurdles at the UW-Parkside Classic invitational to get him to the finals after running 8.69 seconds in the prelims, making the Top 8 finalists.

After the conclusion of the 2016 campaign, Harness and Lim will be running their last year at Roosevelt. What's in store for these athletes is several new freshman coming in to join them during the cross country and track seasons to allow opportunities during invitationals in the team scores. Both Harness and Lim both aim to be all-conference in their events, and to join Aaron King who is part of the all-conference team at Roosevelt in the past.

On the women's side, the highlight of the season would be at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference in Joliet, IL. Two relays made the Top eight standings, the 3200M relay and the 1600M relay teams. The 3200M Relay team with Sarah Poulos, Jessica Fuller, Alena Pacheco, and Jacqueline Fuller. They ran a time of 10:35.50 for a sixth place finish. The 1600M team of Poulos, Jacqueline Fuller, and Wuraola Sosina ran a record breaking time of 4:13.57 with a sixth place finish. Gina Narcisi has been running the half-marathon campaign while running a 5K here and there.

After the conclusion of the women's 2016 campaign, Pacheco will be running her last year at Roosevelt. Majority of the team will be returning and new faces will be joining. Pacheco goal is to qualify at the National level in Cross Country, and the team also aims to qualify as a team. During Track seasons, more relays teams will be played out to allow more run time for the team, and to beat more teams at the CCAC conference in both indoor and outdoor.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
