When you go to school in a small town, the dating scene can be limited. When trying to make the most of the few restaurants you have downtown and the farm land surrounding you, here are my top 11 date spots for Bucknell students!
1. The Fence- An adorable old-fashioned drive in restaurant, The Fence is perfect for any nice day. You and your date can drive up and have the food placed right on your car windows giving you some privacy to chat. Or you can go out and sit on the plaid picnic tables lining the Susquehanna River for some nice views. The milkshakes are a must try so feel free to grab a large one to share if you’re looking to up the romance.
2. The Lewisburg Hotel- This is one of my personal favorites. Usually not too crowded with students, the Lburg Hotel has great salads, unreal wings and a solid beer and cocktail menu. The atmosphere is a little more dark in the bar area, but perfect for a casual date, especially if you’re looking for a little more privacy from the Bucknell student crowd. They also have wing night on Thursdays which is great for us wing and beer lovers!
3. The Bull Run Tap House- If you’re looking for some nice bar food and a great draft menu then Bull Run is the place for you! I love to go here when I want to have a nice casual meal with a date because you can order a bunch of appetizers and try the various beers without even needing to get real entrees. They also have a cute little deck area that they open up when it’s warm out, which is a great place to sit on a nice day!
4. Amami- Whoever said breakfast dates aren’t a thing clearly hasn’t gone to college. The best way to get over that awkward morning after wake up is to offer your date some breakfast! If you have no way to cook breakfast in your dorm room then head on down to Amami. They have the absolute best breakfast wraps and croissant egg sandwiches that are the perfect hangover cure! Their Dirty Chai and iced coffee are also awesome and a must try! Not going to lie, last semester I had a breakfast date with my boyfriend every Monday here and I never got sick of their amazing food!
5. Brasserie Louis- When you want a more upscale date night and are willing to spend some extra money, head over to Brasserie Louis. Their food is to die for and the atmosphere is very romantic, perfect for any special occasion!
6. Mancini's- New to downtown Lewisburg, Mancini’s has the feel of an Italian kitchen with high beam ceilings and an open wood firing stove in the back. Their pizza options are awesome and the size is perfect for sharing with a date! I highly recommend going here for a casual date night when you want quick service or if you want to get take out and then go eat in the little park outside.
7. The Lewisburg Freez- If you’re not ready for the meal level date yet, then the perfect place to try is the Lewisburg Freez. Who doesn’t love an ice cream date? The freez offers hundreds of different mix and match options to make your delicious freez, which is basically a DQ blizzard on steroids. I highly recommend trying the sugar cookie dough with hot fudge in the middle! Every flavor they have is delicious though so you can’t go wrong with any! After you can go walk to the little baseball field and park to relax on a bench and enjoy your ice cream and each others company!
8. The Street of Shops- One of Lewisburg’s hidden gems, it is a little indoor type mall with lots of small stores selling local goods! After you walk around the stores you can head to the Street of Shops restaurant, which has some great breakfast food! Their signature pancakes like the cinnamon bun pancake are awesome as well as the breakfast burritos. It’s an old-fashioned diner atmosphere, perfect for a fun breakfast date!
9. R.B. Winters State Park- R.B. Winters is an awesome place to bring a date when you want to explore the great outdoors! You’ll need a car to get here, but once you do it’ll definitely be worth the drive. There are lots of hiking trails around a small lake that you can check out, which will allow you to get some great one on one time for getting to know each other better.
10. Selinsgrove Movie Theatre- If you love the movies like I do, then there is nothing better than a good old movie date. Grab a car and head over to the Selinsgrove Movie Theatre for some popcorn, candy and a great movie! If you’re feeling daring you can even grab dinner on the way at Panera Bread or for a nicer view, Skeeter’s BBQ which sits on top of a giant hill.
11. Knoebel's Amusement Park- What better way to get to know someone then to scream together on roller coasters and stuff your faces with amusement park treats like funnel cakes and cotton candy. Knoebels is located about 45 minutes from Bucknell and is a great place to go with a date or even just with your friends!
