As we all know, the Presidential Election is upon us. For most of the countrywide college population, it will be the first time that the young minds of America will have be given an opportunity to actually influence and make an impact. However, it is rather disheartening that their decision will be in vain given the candidates that are available to them. Now, I do not claim to know much about politics, nor have I ever voted despite having had the opportunity twice during the previous elections when Obama was put into office, but I am intelligent enough to know when the country is in a state of trouble.
Robert De Niro expressed thoughts that, as Americans, we should all be thinking when faced with opposition against an unsure future. He is quoted claiming that Donald Trump is ‘blatantly stupid’ ‘a punk’ ‘a dog’ ‘’pig’ ‘con’ ‘bull*** artist’ and ‘a mutt who does not know what he is talking about.’ He goes on to emphasize that Donald Trump could be the potential ruin of our country if given the golden opportunity to do so. Coming from the mouth of the type of world-renowned actor that inspires both Americanism and the strong sense of a rags-to-riches story, why would anyone wish to doubt the voice of Vito Corleone (The Godfather) himself?
Consequently, though, it is not so much about Robert De Niro’s opinion that matters as much as his passion for the country that has given him so much hope and opportunity. Biography.com tells a story of a young Robert De Niro who put everything on the line to become what he is today. Why should we doubt that level of loyalty? Why should we shame De Niro for his beliefs and opinions when everyone has them about one thing or another, and most are of a far more important topic than that of two fools trying to steer this beast of a superpower into the ground.
Donald Trump is running for President adjacent of Hilary Clinton. It is understood that one of the two candidates will most likely be voted in and not one person, regardless of their personal opinion, can say how well they will or will not do once they have been handed the reigns. The important thing is participation. In the writing world, we have a saying: “It doesn’t matter how good your writing is, just that you’re writing.” Not to make light of the ‘who’s’ and ‘whys’ as you placidly decide on your ballot, but it matters more that this generation, one that holds so much promise for the future of their country, their workforce, and their livelihoods, actually cares about a topic that could be trending for more than a day on the internet.
You should do your political homework, you should learn about your candidates and what they ‘truly’ stand for, and you should make an educated decision and vote. For, how can we expect to rebuild America back into the type of country and stands up for what it believes in and honors adaptability and intelligence if we never try to stand up for something as individuals.
