The Republic National Convention last week was a mess. There was so much wrong -- chaotic unpresidential-like things happening -- that it honestly makes me scared for this country. Every day the crowd was a sea of mostly white people in outrageous outfits that signified how patriotic they were and how happy they were for Trump. There were lunatics screaming and chanting at anyone who opposed them. The entire convention was filled with lies and false information.
Day 1
The super delegates tried to elect a different nominee because they don't want Donald Trump as their candidate. The Republican Party is split because they don't want someone so awful for president. However, they failed to get anything done because the crowd was in an uproar at them.
The first day, Donald Trump's wife, Melania, gave a great speech. That was, until everyone realized it sounded very similar to Michelle Obama's in 2008. The internet exploded with memes and videos of the careless accident. This could have been so easily prevented by putting the speech through a quick plagiarism check on the internet.
Also, Rudy Giuliani spoke who has previously said a number of racist controversial, comments, and lack of concern for African American lives. Sheriff David Clarke of Milwaukee County also made it very clear that that arena cared about Blue Lives Matter. They failed to recognize that Black Lives Matter is not a stab at other races and not saying that other lives don't matter, but that black lives are the lives that are under attack right now, calling the movement "anarchy." The most disgusting thing was the crowd cheering that the officer involved in Freddie Gray's death had been acquitted of all charges.
Pat Smith, the mother of Sam Smith who died in the Benghazi attack spoke about her son. This truly awful story was turned into a hate speech about Hillary Clinton. Of course we should feel sympathy for everyone who died during the attack and their family, but it shouldn't be used as a political move.
Duck Dynasty's Willie Robertson spoke, because clearly they couldn't find anyone better.
Day 2
The party was finally able to vote on a nominee, and unfortunately, Trump was nominated. Another disturbing thing was a woman peacefully holding up a sign that read "No racism, no hate." The people around her kept trying to take the sign from her, yell at her, and cover it up. Why cover up something about not being racist unless you truly are racist?
Chris Christie spoke, mainly about Hillary Clinton as the crowd shouted "Guilty!" and "Lock her up!" There were plenty of others who were unclassy and spoke about Hillary in a disgusting matter.
Paul Ryan also spoke. He gave a very good speech. However, he's been under criticism for his picture of a "diverse" group of Republican interns who seemed to be 99% white. Ben Carson spoke as well, where he claimed Hillary Clinton to be a descendant of Lucifer. Trump's daughter Tiffany also gave a speech, saying things like, "I've known him all my life." Yeah, no shit.
Day 3
Trump and Pence's awkward embrace. You could tell the two hardly know each other and they greeted each other onstage with an air kiss from Trump and a weird, not-shaking-hands embrace. Yet, they're going to be working side-by-side on important issues.
Of course there were more of crowd-pleasing attacks on Clinton, the media and Trump skeptics in the GOP, but the biggest, and best thing that happened during this convention was Ted Cruz's speech. He refused to endorse Trump, and told the audience and viewers at home straight-up to vote their conscience. This is probably the only thing that Cruz has done right in his life.
Day 4
Of course. there was more Hillary hate, but the last day was especially filled with lies and contradictory statements. A vide,o narrated by Jon Voight, told the biography of Trump's life. However, it failed to mention all of his failures including draft dodging, going bankrupt four times and being involved in a number of lawsuits.
Trump's other daughter, Ivanka, gave a speech. She announced that she was neither Republican or Democrat, which wasn't the greatest move in an arena filled with conservatives. She also spoke a lot about women's rights and equal pay, which contradicts what Trump has said about women, including that they should be punished for having an abortion, body shaming plenty of women and looking at them as only sex symbols. He said he would be dating Ivanka, and has told news reporters that they only got their job because of how they looked, not based on their intelligence.
That leads right into the contradiction of Trump's speech. Two of the lunatic things he mentioned were getting rid of the separation of church and state and he will ban immigration of all Muslims until "we figure out what's going on." However, he also said that he would fight for all races and the LGBTQ community, but not Muslims -- right? Even though he's called Mexicans rapists and has said plenty of other racist remarks. He also has not done anything to fight for equality in the LGBTQ community.
I hope he understands that the GOP are the people voting against equality. They are the ones creating transgender bathroom laws and trying to get rid of marriage equality. He's said that he will help the middle class, but yet is a billionaire who will only cut taxes for the rich. He's said that he knows politics better than anyone, but has never held any political office position. He's said that Hillary has super-PACs throwing money at her, yet, he now has a super-PAC.
A number of the statistics Trump threw out were lies or false. "I alone can fix it" he says, but he has to work with Congress and a number of other people. He also mentioned Bernie Sanders in a desperate measure to gain some of his supporters. But Bernie doesn't want anything from him and does not want to be involved with him in any shape or form. Trump contradicts himself all the time. But I know that he and the RNC are nothing but xenophobic bigots and misogynistic a**holes.
