For people who have never traveled off American Soil and claim that America was never great, just ask the Olympians who had to travel to Rio De Janeiro for the Olympics.
As athletes and people from over two hundred countries come together for the considerably most peaceful world athletic event, it has not been an easy road.
For starters, the water has been a major issue. When water is bad, it is so easy to suggest, cooking with bottled water, brushing your teeth with bottled waters and to drink bottled water. What about the athletes who compete in the water? Our swimmers, Divers, Canoeist , triathletes, open water swimmers and athletes who just want to relax in a pool at night.
The Beach water near the olympics contain a high level of bacteria and Fecal matter. The World health organization has suggested that athletes do their best to not swallow the water and to keep their mouth closed. A test done by ABC Chief health and medical editor along with a biologist found pipes that dump sewage directly into the water that some swimmers will be competing in.
Although Scientist and Rio officials insist the water is safe to compete in, the contamination level in some areas is enough to get beaches in America shutdown.
Not to mention, the Olympic villages where the athletes are to be housed, is sub-par to what one would expect. Australian basketball athlete Andrew Bogut tweeted "At #IOCLuxuryLodging we believe a bed is not vital for sleep. Fine tuned athletes can sleep standing up."
The athletes are sleeping in twin beds.
Chinese athletes also tweeted to their official team account " God helps those who help themselves," as they use duct tape to repair their rooms.
As olympic athletes wait their entire lives to compete in the olympics, is it fair that many of them are living worst than a college student on campus?
The media Villages are no better ! Chinese journalist shared pictures of their collapsed sinks and flooded rooms.
However, with all the negative, lets acknowledge the one event that brings most of the world together. The Olympics. After Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012, it is important that Rio is up to par with the opening ceremony.
As I watched the Olympic opening ceremony , it was a little hard to grasp. Brazil admitted that they did not have much money to spend, so most of it went to a projection screen that allowed them to provide multiple scenery.
Although the show started off slow and with a tight budget, Brazil's culture showed. Using the richest dances that come from the poorest areas of Brazil. Also, local celebrities made appearances along with Gisele Bundchen taking her final catwalk across the arena.
The Olympics this summer are sure to be great, as Germany and Brazil have a personal rivalry against each other and with the one hundred plus missing athletes from Russia due to "doping," we are skeptical to see how things will turn out.
