Why The Olympics Should Have Been Moved Out Of Rio

There have been so many issues in Rio, so why has the committee not thought about leaving?

While there is excitement by the general public for the Olympics, I myself am not too excited for these Olympics. While I do not doubt that the athletes at the Olympics will put on a great show for the fans, I feel as though the Olympic committee has done a disservice to the athletes by allowing these games to go on. There have been a variety of issues with the facilities that are in Rio de Janeiro for the athletes to compete in and there are a variety of health and safety issues that could cause major harm for the athletes.

Normally, when a city were to host the Olympics, they are in great shape and the athletes are not at risk of injuring themselves or getting sick. Within the past week or so alone, the stands at the Olympic rowing stadium collapsed into the water and there was a health report released that stated how the athletes were at risk of getting sick if they even put their heads under the water. This only adds to the list that has been accumulating over the months leading up to the games whether it is sewage being found in the water or a laundry list of other structural issues with the venues. It is outrageous that the Olympic committee has allowed instances like this to happen at a place where the best athletes from around the world are coming to compete; these athletes deserve top quality facilities if they are going to be expected to travel rather far distances in order to compete.

Olympians should not have to weigh the opportunity with being able to compete in the Olympics with the health risks that may result in being in Brazil and competing - with the water being polluted with sewage waste and the poor air quality that would have a negative affect on their respiratory and digestive health. In addition, the athletes have to worry about contracting Zika virus very easily because of the fact that the disease can be transmitted very easily sexually as well as the fact that the disease can be contracted from other mosquito that are already infected. The last concern for the athletes is that Rio has a high crime rate, so if athletes are out late at night, like normal human beings, they are put at risk of having something bad happen to themselves.

The Olympics in Rio de Janeiro are attracting a lot of attention from fans who would always watch the games. However, the Olympic committee choosing Rio as a host city has been a bad idea that has put the athletes and fans at the games with unnecessary risks by attending and competing in the games. The Olympic committee put the dollar signs in sponsorship and money that they received from Rio before the safety of the fans and athletes that will be at the games, which is not something that the committee should have done.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
