Roswell High School may have the best football team in the state of Georgia. Roswell High has had five state championship appearances in the last 66 years of its existence. They won state in 1968 and 1970 and tied for the win in 2006. Roswell has lost two state games, one in 1956 against Monticello and another in 2015 against Colquitt County. As local fans know, the school’s biggest rival is Milton High School. Roswell has a 34–21–1 advantage over Milton. Milton High School has never made a state championship appearance.
Football at Roswell High School has become an important topic. Everyone is interested in who they defeated the previous Friday night. They are taking down everyone in their path and not stopping until they have the state championship trophy in their hands and the rings on their fingers.
Every year outstanding players go to top schools to play football. Tre Lamar, an inside linebacker, currently plays for the Clemson Tigers; he graduated from Roswell High last year. Tyron Hopper, an outside linebacker, now plays for the North Carolina Tar Heels, and Marcelino Ball, safety, currently plays for the Indiana Hoosiers. Xavier McKinney was chosen for the Under Armour All-American game in 2017.
According to Xcellent 25, Roswell is ninth. They are 22nd in the nation and second in the state of Georgia only to Grayson High School. Grayson lost to Roswell in 2015, 30-26, with a long pass from Quintarius Neely caught by A.J. Smith right into the endzone in the last five seconds.
Roswell is built on the quote by an assistant principal, “Live it; love it; be it, Roswell!” It empowers students every day to do their best, whether in academics or athletics.
