Regrouping A Divided Nation

Coming together will be the only way we survive the next four years.

Regrouping A Divided Nation

The 2016 election was one of the craziest, most intense things I'll probably ever experience. Between the candidates and the general public, there was chaos throughout the country and it seemed like everyone was divided. I had hoped that this would all end after the election was all said and done, boy was I wrong.

In any election, it’s only natural that there will be plenty of people that like and don’t like each candidate. It’s also natural that people will fight for what they believe in, which is great because we deserve to have our voices heard. It's understandable why many people feel negatively about the country's current situation. If you feel like the country's going to improve, that's great too.

However, just because we all have different beliefs doesn't mean that we should allow ourselves to become divided and resort to violence and arguments.

Now, more than ever, it's very important that we work together and reunite ourselves. It's the only way that anything is going to be solved if we want to fix, save or whatever you feel we need to do to our country. How are we going to get anything accomplished if we're out destroying buildings that have nothing to do with the current President? What are we going to solve by going on social media and personally attacking each other?

If we want any issues resolved, we're going to have to choose to peaceful, intelligent conversation. Open minded discussions are the only way we'll get people to hear our side and even consider it. I feel like we could find compromise a lot easier if we started looking at how to fix the issues rather than telling people why their beliefs are wrong.

If you believe that the current administration doesn't care about the country, why not work to bring everyone together? I mean, someone's gotta care, right? Let that be you, inspire the change that you wish to see. Start by peacefullybringing awareness to issues of inequality and anything else plaguing our nation. Protest all you want. Make all of the Facebook and Twitter posts that you want. Comment on anyone else's posts that you want if you feel like you can help inform them. Just. Be. Peaceful.

Being peaceful and kind to one another and practicing love is the only way we're going to make it out of the next few years alive. Violence and arguments are only going to drive us away from each other and further divide the country. What kind of a country would we be if everyone completely hated one another?

If we really want what's best for this country, we need to do it by uniting and helping those around us, not dividing and bringing each other down. The President only lasts so long, but peace, love and kindness can last forever if we let them.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
