Divided Nation Under God

In the midst of a country full of hatred

Divided Nation Under God

My fellow American's, I don't know about you, but in the midst of the election, I'm seeing nothing but hatred and division among our nation. This is not another article explaining why Trump won the election or why Hillary did not, this is an article about the steps that the people need to take now for the future of our country.

Election season, regardless of the candidates, always seems to create a hostile environment in which people are radical and in which others feel as if they are walking on egg shells. Yes, the election is supposed to bring out the side in people who are wanting to voice their opinion and exercise their right to vote and to say what they wish freely, however, the election is not supposed to create hatred and to bring one another down in the midst of looking for the candidate who will better our country.

Now, more than ever, American's must work harder than ever before to promote unity among our citizens. We must push aside our different opinions and work together towards bettering our nation. This is the thing about politics (and it is no secret): there will never be a point in time in which every American is content with what has been done on an issue. Yes, people have valid reasons for taking their specific stances on an arguement whether it in gun control, abortion, etc. Every hot button issue contains two sides.

Although you may not agree who has been nominated to lead our great country, you must realize that this is still a democracy. The people still must all contribute to further this nation. You have your reasons for supporting different issues and so do I, but we can sit here for an endless amount of time and explain why our side is correct and point fingers. Rather than sitting in an endless circle of "buts" and "ifs", why not rather civilly discuss with one another about something that we can do about an issue to discover a middle ground.

If there is something in this nation that you do not agree with, do something about it. We are consistently seeing post after post filled with bad language and hatred but if you want something to change, it won't with a post on social media. If you want change, be the change. Do not sit back and complain about everything that is wrong with our country without taking the initiative to go out and do something about it. Words mean very little when action is at hand. Write your senators and allow them to help you!

This nation is divided. We are too caught up with being correct and in our pride to figure things out. Let me tell you a secret: America will get nowhere without the contribution from each and every individual who calls this place home. So yes, have your opinion. Voice your opinion. Regardless of your views, you must be respectful towards those whom you are surrounded by daily. Nobody is ever going to be 100% right. Attacking someone for supporting who they did makes you no better than the candidate themself.

So today, and every other day, love your community and your nation. Count your blessings that we are able to voice our opinions without getting executed. Count your blessings that we live in a nation like the United States of America. Never lose sight of those blessings and work together to better this nation.

Loyally,

Jamie

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
