We brag, we boast and we even have our own Twitter account to prove that "if it ain't Texas, it don't matter." Growing up a Texan is an honor that no one can ever take away from you. The people here are friendly, the roads are great and we have some of the best bar-be-que you've ever tasted. If you happen to cross the state line, you are more than proud to let people know that you're from the "Lone Star State." This place is one you'll never want to leave and here are for some reason.
1. Red, white, blue and better than you!
Our state flag says it all. What is more patriotic than the colors red, white and blue? These flags flown side by side are a symbol of our freedom and honor to our state and country. Most Texans have these flags in their homes and even in their yards for passerby's to see. People even get this flag tattooed to show their love of this state in an even more permanent way. Texas Forever, am I right?
2. The nearest Buc-ee's is 49 Miles, step on the gas.
Nearly 100 gas pumps, the cleanest restrooms you've ever seen, and Beaver nuggets. What more could you want from a gas station than this? Located in many cities all over the state of Texas, we detour if Siri doesn't find the route with the nearest Buc-ee's.
3. Get in, we're going two steppin'.
It's Friday night and we've got our boots on. Everyone jumps in their jacked up trucks and heads out to the bar. The country music is blaring and we can hear it from the parking lot as we arrive. We all hurry inside to find a parter. When your song plays you run out to the dance floor and get to stepping'. This Texas art form is inexpensive, gets your heart pumping, and provides you with a night of fun with your friends.
4. Whataburger.
This burger joint was founded in 1950, deep in the heart of Texas. Serving a wide variety of American food this place is every Texan's favorite fast food restaurant. Visiting any other state and trying to explain how great the burgers and honey butter chicken biscuits are, is a task we've all failed at. It's a 3 a.m. pit stop after the bar or a meal you grab to enjoy on the go. Whatever the occasion, this place never seems to disappoint.
5. March is family portrait month in Texas.
The bluebonnets start blooming in March and families all over the state of Texas get in their best clothing and head out to take family photos. We've all seen the cars pull over to the side of the road and file out one by one for a photo with these flowers. Whether it's for your annual family portrait, or you're driving down the highway in Texas, this gorgeous state flower never seems to get any less beautiful.
6. "Hi ho! Let's go!"
No matter where you're located in Texas, you're bound to be near a sports team of your liking. Any time of year, whether it is a college team or professional, we have a sports game to attend. Bringing in so many of the greatest players of all time, our state never fails to entertain with some sports.
7. Yes, Tex-Mex is a real thing.
You haven't tasted Mexican food, until you've tasted Tex-Mex. This combination of Texas and Mexico has so many flavors and spices that will leave you speechless. From the enchiladas to the margaritas and far in-between, all of these delicious things to order will have you coming back for a weekly visit.
8. The state fair of Texas.
Located in Dallas, the state fair is a huge attraction that brings in thousands of people every year. Ferris wheels that provide a view of the entire park, a petting zoo with animals from all over the world, and just about anything you can imagine deep fried on a stick. These are just a few of the great things that you can find at this state fair. This is a place that makes us all feel like we are home.
9. Keep Austin weird.
One of the greatest cities in our state is our capitol, Austin. Filled with food trucks, the capitol building, and 6th Street there are plenty of things to keep you occupied while visiting. A city where you are accepted for who you are and see people from all walks of life, you're bound to fit in somewhere.
No matter where you are in the great state of Texas, you're bound to be near good food, great people, and a sight worth seeing. If you happen to end up here someday, I promise the experience will have you never wanting to leave. We may not ride to school on horses, or wear boots every day like the northerners think, but we do have one heck of a time living here in the "Lone Star State." Can I get a YEEHAW from all the Texans out there?
