Last semester, my best friend and I were sitting around and complaining about just how single we were as we tried to find dates for our sorority's semi-formal. After lots of laughs we decided that we are each other's boyfriends. At first it was a joke but after thinking about it, it's true. Your best friend is your boyfriend, but better. Here's why:
1. She will always support you
Who needs a man to support you when you have your best friend? Sure, its nice to have a guy in your corner, but I’d rather have my best friend. She gets just as excited as me when I get a good grade on a test, or encourages me to apply for all sorts of things.
2. You take turns paying for food
I can’t tell you how much money I’ve spent on late night pizzas for us while studying. Or Dairy Queen when someone is having a bad day.
3. She will buy you flowers
When I came home from my colonoscopy, there were flowers sitting on my bed and a note from her. You also probably give her flowers on her birthday, after an important event, or when something good happened to her. Plus, she knows your favorite kind of flowers so you don’t have to worry about getting ones you don’t like.
4. You make future plans together
My best friend and I are already planning Spring Break next year, to get a puppy, our 21st birthdays, and about our future farm houses and kids.
5. Your family loves her
Whenever my mom calls me, she asks about my best friend, and asks to talk to her on the phone. My best friend even has my mom's phone number, and whenever I go home my family asks about her, and when she is coming home with me next. I think they may be more excited to see her than me...
6. Your important life decisions affect her
As I decide where I want to apply for graduate school, I always think the same questions, How will this affect her? Where is the closest airport for her to come visit? How much are plane tickets? How is the Wi-Fi speed so we can FaceTime? Or can she just move in with me?
7. You probably spent Valentine's Day together
Despite having a boyfriend, I spent most of my Valentine's day doing homework and eating with my best friend. We where both incredibly sick but still managed to have a great day anyway.
8. She will wipe away your tears
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve called my best friend in tears, and she is always there to listen. A lot of guys aren’t exactly sure how to handle a crying girl, but your best friend is a pro at this stuff.
9. You call her home your home
My home is in Chicago, and my best friend's home is a small town. But she calls my home her home, and I call her home my home. Because I know I could walk into her house, and her parents wouldn't think twice about it.
So, who needs a boyfriend when you have your best friend?
