Choosing A Christian University Changed My Life

12 Reasons I Chose A Christian University
Kesley Danielle Williams

I chose Faulkner University for many reasons. But choosing any Christian college leads may raise a few questions as to why you should. Some may choose it for the sports or because they get a lot of scholarship money—neither of these were reasons for me. I think my reasons are pretty universal for Christians who choose a Christian college.

1. The Christian atmosphere helps to mold and shape our Christian walk.

Being around people who are mostly Christian helps to mold and shape you into a better Christian and follower of Christ.

2. The environment encourages me to do the right thing and worship God.

A lot of times in college you do not want to go to church or worship, but being around Christian friends they encourage you to go to church and find the church home for you in your new college town.

3. The worship and fellowship.

Whether it is chapel, or just walking to class, Christ is always a high topic and is not one that is avoided. My friends and I constantly talk about our beliefs and relationship with Christ. We also encourage each other and help the person going through a hard time.

4. Not only is the worship great, but the singing is even better!

What Christian doesn't love the singing of worship, even if you just listen? It is always beautiful.

5. Jesus is always the answer.

No, Jesus isn't the answer to your math homework or even your Bible test, but it always comes back to Him. All of the teachers always bring Jesus into every lecture or assignment! They always explain His majesty and how God is the Creator of all. Everything always goes back to Christ.

6. Baptisms are announced as if they are an engagement.

In high school, it was never mentioned if anyone was baptized over the weekend, but at Christian colleges, they are praised and clapped for at Monday's chapel.

7. Mostly everyone is striving to be like Christ!

This means that everyone is kind and happy even after a horrible test. Also, this goes back to #2. Everyone is helping everyone else to grow and become a Christian.

8. At Christian colleges, Christianity is the norm.

Christianity is not the norm in today's world. Today the Kardashians and iPhones are more normal than Christianity.

9. Christian college is very similar to church camp, but better.

Church camp gets you all hyped up for Jesus. That also happens at Christian college because no one is scared to talk about their beliefs. Church camp also doesn't have the best food or wifi or your family or your pet goat.

10. Christian colleges makes your long distance boyfriend back home less jealous or worried.

They tend to like the fact that you have a curfew and boys are not a load in your dorms and that you have a dress code. Because if you have a good boyfriend like I do I don't want him to go anywhere.

11. To complete your wedding party.

A lot of my friends are here mainly to find the love of their life. We call it getting our Mrs. degree. But for me, I already have my man, but not my bridesmaids. I was not close to anyone I graduated with, so here at college, I am looking for lifetime friends who can stand by my side on my wedding day!

12. The spiritual butterflies!

This is the feeling of Godly and unbelievable things happening. This is the chills that you feel as you sing your favorite hymn or as you ride in your car eating pumpkin spice Oreos and singing and talking about Jesus. You can't get any more basic white girl than that. When you get that feeling of God's presence or the feeling of His hand upon you telling you it is ok. Spiritual butterflies are my favorite reason as to why I chose a Christian university.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
