Ever since I watched my first episode of "Sex in the City" four years ago, I have been simply obsessed with Carrie Bradshaw. She was everything I dreamed of being one day. Carrie was not only a writer, but a successful one that lived in the heart of New York City. She was glamorous, intelligent, fashion-forward, but also a little quirky. She found success, love, and adventures with her three best friends, while always learning a lesson. She is my definition of the perfect woman for many reasons, and she should be yours, too.
1. Friends come first with her.
Carrie always emphasized the importance of friendship. No matter what happened in the show, Miranda, Charlotte, Carrie, and Samantha had each other’s backs. They went through everything together. When Samantha got cancer, the girls were there for her every step of the way. When Big didn’t show up to the wedding, and Carrie fell apart, it was heartbreaking just to watch, but her girls did everything to help her, and because of them she was okay. Each of the girls had their own separate issues, yet they were never alone when dealing with them. Carrie’s group of friends is the perfect example of what it means to be best friends. Through all her love affairs, her greatest one was with her girlfriends.
2. She was always true to herself.
For Carrie, in order to be happy, she knew she always had to listen to her heart and do what was best for her. For example, when Big didn’t show up at the wedding, everyone thought she would be a wreck, and she was for awhile, but she also used it as a opportunity to get to know herself. She went off and got an assistant, new hair, and a new life. Eventually, she and Big reunited, but it was on her terms. She believed that one day someone would love her for her true self, and she was right. It might have taken several dramatic relationships and love affairs, but by remaining true to herself, she guaranteed herself a future of happiness.
3. She refused to regret.
My favorite thing about Carrie was that she left the past behind with ease. She never focused on the “what ifs” and the “could have beens." Carrie knew how to pick herself up with dignity, even when it seemed impossible. When she broke up with a guy, she would mourn and eat ice cream, but it was never long before she was back on her feet and looking amazing as always. She refused to let the past ruin the present, and that is simply incredible.
4. She’s not perfect
The irony of this article is that Carrie isn’t perfect. She might have been beautiful, classy, successful, and fashion-forward, but she was also klutzy and scattered and therefore pretty far from perfect. She didn’t represent this unattainable persona; she represented all women everywhere in some way or another. Instead of focusing on her imperfections, Carrie found ways to learn from them and to make herself a stronger woman. By accepting herself and her imperfections, she became the closest thing there is to perfect. What’s not to love about a woman who can accomplish that?
