Some of you may hate me after reading this and to me, that's okay. I 100% believe that honesty is so important, and in today's world, there should be so much more of it. Instead, we are surrounded by people who love to sugar coat things. That's part of the reason so many of us are so clueless as to what is actually happening around the world.
One of the problems that we do hear about quite often is discrimination. Another word that we hear is racism. Our world is full of racism, but it isn't just one group of people who are the culprits. Unfortunately, I have been hearing that only whites can be racist way too often. I was advised from certain people not to write this article due to what it might start, and I think that is unfair, but life is unfair. The whole reason I decided to tackle this subject is because I, myself, am white. I was never raised to treat anyone different because of their color, and I will one day teach my children the same thing.
I am tired of being thrown into one large group of people because of my color. Sounds familiar doesn't it? We often hear these words coming from the minority, and I understand what they are saying. I wish people did not group them as a whole because it is NOT right. But that DOES NOT give them the right to do it too.
Have you ever heard of two wrongs don't make a right? Well, of course you have. So, how is this situation any different?
According to dictionary.com the definition of discrimination is
"the treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit."
In that definition, it never once says in that description that white people can not be discriminated against or that they are the only culprits. Now how about racism?
The definition of racism is "hatred or intolerance of another race or other races."
If this is true then where is the whole idea that only whites can be racist coming from? Ignorance. Ignorance would be the cause for that. People have been so infatuated with all the bad things that have happened at the hands of the whites that they are now seen as the enemy. Anytime a minority gets shot down from a white cop, it is now seen as an act of racism. What if the cop was actually in danger? People seem to look past the fact that there have been black cops that have shot and killed white people but that isn't all over the news. There are cops that should have not pulled the trigger but just because some of them did, does not make every other cop a bad guy. It also is no reason to start a whole riot. Just because someone does something and they are a certain color, does not mean everyone should be grouped together.
These riots have just been making discrimination worse. While one group is trying to help the situation by protesting or sticking up for what they believe in they forget what it looks like to the people not involved. It looks like a rebellion. The whole saying "Black lives matter" has come from all this and yes that is true, but they do have one thing wrong... ALL LIVES MATTER. ALL LIVES. not just one group ALL LIVES.
If we want these kinds of situations to get better, then this needs to be pounded into everyone's heads. The past is the past and you can not rewind time. All we can do as citizens and people is to move forward. Remember from the movie The Robinson's, "Just keep moving forward" ? Yeah, well that is what we need to do.
Like I said in the beginning, honesty is 100% so important, and this article may cause people to dislike me but I believe this is something people need to think about. Since I am being honest, I want everyone to know that racism in general disgusts me, and discrimination does too. There should be no such thing as color, but for some reason there is. We just all need to work together as a whole and not further segregate ourselves from each other.
If you truly want to make a racist mad, the real way to do it is by joining together. Do you think that a racist wants to see a person of color and a white person friends or married? No. Joining together is the best thing you can do to fight for equality.
ALL LIVES MATTER.
