We all know life gets rough and it's hard to get out of a hole that we are currently drudging in. As human beings, we all have different ways of coping with our hardships, whether that's watching hours of Netflix, eating ice cream, or exercising, but sometimes just a simple quote can change our whole direction and perspective on our lives. Here's a few that you probably need to hear right now.
"Never stop doing your best just because someone doesn't give you credit."
This is so important. Whether you are in college, at work, or even at home, this probably happens way too often. It is annoying sometimes when you worked so hard on something or did amazing on an exam and no one recognizes you for that, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't keep doing the best you can. It took me a long time to realize and come to terms with the fact that your own approval is the only one that matters, because without it, you rely on others for praise, and this approval should come from yourself first. I learned to be proud of myself even if no one noticed what I did, and I can honestly say that it changed the way I approach many situations.
"Life always offers you a second chance, and it's called tomorrow."
When we have bad days, we often think that it won't get better from there. If our day starts off on a wrong note, we automatically associate that day as "horrible" and patiently wait for the next bad thing to happen. The 365 days we have in a year are all up to us and what we make of them. If we spend too much time worrying or being sad, we are wasting a day that could have been amazing, but instead decided to make it a bad one. I've had many moments in my life that made me realize life is way too short to be upset, and because of this, I rarely ever have bad days anymore and I am so happy. We shouldn't be so caught up in one bad day and mistake that for having a bad life.
"When you think you're not happy with your life, just remember that someone is happy you exist."
I can think of so many people who I'm happy that exist in my life and just thinking of them makes my life better. I tell these people as much as I can how lucky I am to have them around and I hope it makes their life a little brighter knowing this. I think sometimes we don't let those special people in our lives know what they truly mean to us, and that is something I'm trying to do less of in my life. Life is too short to keep things inside of you that you have always wanted to say to someone, because whether you like it or not, some of those people move on and in the end, you'll regret that chance you didn't take. Tell those people you love and appreciate them, because it not only makes those people feel good, but you too.
"Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive about what could go right."
We are all guilty of having negative attitudes sometimes, but when we become too pessimistic about our lives it becomes embarrassing. I realized how important it is to be positive, because no one wants to be around you if you aren't. Before exams, I used to always go in to them thinking I didn't study enough and was going to get a bad grade because of that. Now, I tell myself that I have done all that I could to prepare and will do the best I can. Unsurprisingly, this mindset of positivity has given me a new perspective on my life and what's to come. Of course I have worries about what will happen next in my life, but I know that whatever journey that lies ahead of me will lead me to a lifetime of happiness and I can't wait.
"What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven't happened yet."
This is probably the best quote ever. We never really know when we will have one of the best days of our lives, and that can be a good thing. We have the potential to create these days and to me, that is amazing. I've already had some of these days and I can't wait to experience the rest of them in the future. Graduating from college, getting my first teaching job, getting married, having kids...the list could go on and on. The future is a scary thing but I think because it is so unpredictable, we have the ability to make it something to look forward to. These so-called "best days of our lives" are defined differently for everyone, but what we all want for ourselves is the same: happiness.
