The Best Decision My BF And I Made Was Choosing Experiences Rather Than Materialistic Gifts For Our Anniversary

No gifts? I know, call me crazy. I love receiving gifts, giving gifts, I love it all. But let's face it. My boyfriend and I are both in college and money does not just come out of thin air. So when it came to our one year anniversary, we wanted to do something a little different.

While most couples will try to find the perfect gift and go store to store, we decided to take an alternate route. Last week, we decided to go Clearwater, Florida (which also happens to be my boyfriend's hometown). We love going to his home not only to see his amazing parents and the best dogs in the world but also the fact that its the beach! Not many people can say they live ten minutes from the beach and can easily go fishing or kayaking in their backyard. Not to mention there's always something fun about seeing where your significant other grew up and driving around their hometown.

We went for experience rather than going for the materialistic gift. And while I love gifts and have nothing wrong with couples that exchange them on their anniversaries, it was nice to have time together, away from school, away from stress, and just being together.

So many times we can get so caught up in homework and studying, and sometimes you just need to go away for the weekend and spend quality times with those you love.

We don't need gifts to ensure our love for each other. Even though, I will say for our six month anniversary I was gifted a little elephant necklace which I treasure and wear every single day. Keep in mind that an elephant is my favorite animal and the fact that he remembered that after me mentioning it maybe once, was the best surprise ever and most thoughtful gift I have ever gotten.

So if you're on a budget and not sure what to get your significant other, I highly recommend stepping away from your normal routine and spending some quality time together with your significant other. Put your phone down, postpone the homework for a day or two, and just have fun together. I can honestly say I had an amazing weekend just getting away from all the stress of school and spending quality time with the best boyfriend ever.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
