Put Down The Donut
They are so bad for you! I know they taste like a little bit of heaven, but do you know what they cause? No? Let me fill you in (takes a deep breath) pimples, bloating, self-loathing, diabetes, actual weight gain, lack of will power, cavities, lust for just one more, and shame that fallow when you walk in the door and the owner knows you by a first name bases. (Dramatic inhale) For the most part I am speaking from experience, (Except for the diabetes, knock on wood) they do know me by name and know more about my life than my pastor does. Lets be honest though, I’m not just talking about donuts. At our age we need to give up most sugars and junk food all together. I’ll be referencing this again in the Your Mothers Not Always Wrong chapter, so be ready. For those of you that are like me and still love sweet things, try Agave. Though I don’t recommend it for people suffering from diabetes, it is a way better alternative to sugar. Need more convincing? It comes from the same plant that makes tequila. Not that we responsible, under age, law abiding citizens know what that is, but for the other 90% you know what I’m talking about. Not laughing yet? Put the book back, you and I do not have the same sense of humor. Yes I laugh at my own jokes! How else are you supposed to know that you’re funny? Anyways…. I know how good sugar tastes and how tempting it is to eat it (BELIEVE ME I KNOW) but think about it, after that few seconds of “Yay” wears off do you feel better? No you don’t! You probably feel even worse, because it’s not good for us and lets face it we aren’t 10 years olds anymore (sadly). We have to move on.
Moving on
Disconnect Netflix
I know! I can hear your heart breaking from hear! Mine is too. We are in the same boat, but we have to get off. It takes up so much time! It’s never just one more episode and more of a distraction from your love life, or lack therefore of one. Don’t feel alone and ostracized! That’s all of us, if we are being honest with ourselves. Now that you have HOPEFULLY done that, congratulations! You have more time and money. Which one is better? You tell me….. Now what? Well you have a ton of time and probably have a public (or school) library that is painfully unloved and underused. Get a dang book!.... This one does not count. Seriously though! There are some amazing books out there and its cheaper then a plane ticket. First things first, find the genre that you enjoy the most. Whether its adventure, mystery, travel, documentary, romance, or drama you gotta find your niche. Did you recognize something about those genre’s? (Surprised face) They are the same ones that are on Netflix! So start there. The kind of movies that you like will probably be the same kind of books that you like. If you are a fan of TV shows… Try comics, they are the equivalent of TV shows in the Literary world (jk I really don’t know if that’s true). Anywho… Go look for a story that you will fall in love with! If you have a hard time actually sitting reading, try getting an audio book. They are more expensive, (unless by some miracle your library still has some) but totally worth it. Especially if you are the kind of person that has to drive an hour to work, or 7 hours to make it home for some of mamas cooking. No judgment, its generally better then our own cooking or cafeteria “food”. Just to remember to tell her that you are cutting back on sugar and eating healthier. If you are from a family that LOVES food… Good luck with that and remember the magic word, “no thank you” for when the cake comes around. Back to books… Get some, read them, and tell a friend. Need some book references? Here are a few. I recently read See Me from Nickolas sparks and I think it’s the only book that I really like of his. Warning the intro is a little creepy, just keep going! Another great one is The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It’s a great story and a good reminder about how other people feel towards “social norms”. If you are into action and fantasy try the Inheritance series by Christopher Pollyanna. Way better then the movie! Though if you enjoy dragons and you are a Christian like me, try Dragons in our Midst by Brian Davis. It talks about faith, good versus evil, history, the Bible, and good relationships in general. Speaking of which…
