The days of being able to get by only by talking when talked to have passed, if there was even a time for that! These days networking is everything, it's not what you know but who you know. It won't hurt to start networking which is, in its simplest form, making friends. Talk, text, letters, blog, become a YouTuber, try to make some sort of effort to be heard and to hear others.
How can you expect to get ahead in life if you're stuck in the past? We know you miss those days when you were an infant, and only wanted your mother's love and a cookie?
Grow up. Change, morph and modify your current situation because money won't chase after you. The more difficult thing, it seems, is for people to find a way out of their comfort zone. You may wonder, "how do I build up enough confidence to put myself out there?" Well, I found that the more positive the people are that surround you, and the more supportive you are of yourself and your dreams then the more likely it is that you'll be motivated to show off the talents you possess. Once I got to college I found many groups of friends that I thought to be positive forces in my life and although many of those relationships didn't last very long, I did find a few close friends that have continued to push me in the right direction. These few friends have made a great impact on my confidence and have helped me acquire a faith in my abilities. For example, I had always been the type of person that kind of believed I had talent, but would shy away from opportunities to show it until I fully committed to becoming a music major.
Although I was always nervous and sometimes afraid to showcase my talent, I would go to open mics and auditions for plays and shows. In November of last year, I opened my mouth and did a rap audition; something I had never done before, but quickly gained respect because of it. Overcoming my fear gave me the opportunity to sing and rap Hampton University's Hip-Hop Showcase. Because I was in the show, many influential relationships were formed, one of which being the new found relationship with my mentor, who is an artist on his way up.
I found that passion outweighs fear and anxiety. If you have a passion for something, do it, and reap the influential partnerships that come from your showcasing of it.
