I was never a hockey player, nor am I one of those people that have followed the game since I was four years old, but it doesn’t mean I love the game any less than anyone else. I could tell you the rules, my favorite players, recite the Miracle speech at any given time, and could not be any more excited for this upcoming season.
Hockey games are a staple at Quinnipiac. Friday and Saturday nights from October until March are dedicated to going to the TD Bank Sports Center at about 6 p.m. and then going out to a party or Toad’s following the game. Hockey is the tie that binds all Bobcats together during the school year. We win together and we lose together. Or we tie together (TBT to the Yale game last year. Good times).
Though I personally go to the game for the love of hockey, there are plenty of other things to look forward to when you’re there. Have it be the rush of trying to find a good seat, the promo video that plays a few minutes before 7:00, or the time in between periods where you want your 15 seconds of fame on the jumbotron/dance cam, any of these are what we look forward to and how we enjoy the game.
We wait for the email every Monday that says tickets are available. We then rush and download them online as soon as we can, just to reserve our ticket in case the game sells out. We wait all week until Friday and/or Saturday and deck out in our Quinnipiac gear and go to the games. It’s just how it is. We don’t have football, but we do have the greatest sport on Earth: hockey. And we’re pretty damn good at it too.
Admit it, Bobcat Hockey could’ve been one of the reasons you decided to come to Quinnipiac. I know it played a factor in my decision (following academics, of course). The evenings spent at hockey games are some of the best memories I’ve had at Quinnipiac so far and will be some of my favorite memories in the time to come.
