Donald Trump held a rally in Kansas City, Miss. after he was forced to cancel a rally in Chicago due to violence which erupted after protesters clashed with Trump supporters. I have never before watched a Trump rally due to my disdain for Trump and all of his policies. After actually hearing a Trump stump speech, I was further put off by almost every word that escaped his mouth.
Trump started off by chastising those exercising their 1st Amendment rights by protesting at his rallies. Trump said he would attempt to get those who protested his rallies arrested, so protesters would cease appearing at his rallies.
This proposal is asinine.
A candidate for president actually suggested we should arrest people who do not agree with his opinions. While I understand that it must be annoying to have your rallies constantly interrupted, every major presidential candidate has had to deal with it throughout their campaigns. This is one of the prices of running for the chance to become the President of the United State of America. In America, we do not prosecute protesters at presidential rallies because that goes against the rights that have been guaranteed to U.S. citizens, and we cannot vote for a president who would demonize those that disagree with him.
War criminals are frowned upon by mainstream society so a presidential candidate who proposes policies that would qualify as war crimes would be destroyed by any civilized society, right? Not if your name is Donald Trump. Trump said he would allow way worse than waterboarding as President and even questioned if waterboarding counted as torture. Waterboarding is torture. There is no discussion to be had. If you do not believe me, look up the United Nations Convention Against Torture which was ratified by the U.S. Just to be clear: Donald Trump has said, as president, he would violate international and federal laws and torture prisoners. Is this the man you want for president? Does he represent the best of the United States of America?
My third criticism is one of Trump's most popular talking points - that he will build a wall and get Mexico to pay for it. There is a zero percent chance that there will be a wall built along the U.S/Mexico border that would be paid for by Mexico.
Trump can keep claiming that there will be, but the current president of Mexico has already passionately denied that he will pay for such a wall. Trump reached new levels of stupidity on this issue when he insinuated that he would use the U.S Army to get his wall paid for. You read that right. President Trump would use the U.S Army and possibly start a war with Mexico over a border wall that anyone with any amount of common sense knows Mexico won't pay for. The fact actually scares me that someone who would say that is not just in the running for the presidency but is the leading Republican candidate.
While there were so many statements said at Trump's rally that I vehemently disagree with, I can't mention them all as this article has to end somewhere. I'm truly interested how any sane human being can support such a candidate. Trump is a candidate who preaches hate and consistently lies or drastically bends the truth to fit his needs. If you don't believe it, check it out on Politifact, an independent political website that has judged over a 100 Donald Trump statements and has ranked 77 percent of them as mostly false or outright false.
This is the leading candidate for the Republican nominee for President of United States and that fact should scare you. Trump said, at one point in his speech, that there has never been a campaign like his in the United States of America, and he was right, but we've seen campaigns like this in both Italy and Germany and they led to a World War. But what's the worst Trump could do?
