Prospect Analysis Of The 2017 NBA Draft Class
SB Nation

With the loaded 2017 draft class ready to become some of the league's most dynamic players, there raises questions of who is deserving to go #1 overall, and who will follow shortly after. These are my rankings of some of the NCAA’s most elite prospects going into the Elite Eight of the March Madness tournament.

Markelle Fultz: Once again, for a second straight year the top prospect of the draft has failed to lead his team to qualify for the NCAA tournament. The 9-22 Washington Huskies had a horrible season, and not even the top ranked prospect could lead them to a respectable record. This raised questions of Fultz' leadership and competitiveness. However, this does not change my mind at all. He is a one of a kind, can’t miss prospect in any draft. His three-way scoring ability is remarkable. Whether it is outside, mid-range or driving to the basket, Fultz has the tools to score on even the greatest of defenders in the college game. What is more impressive about Fultz is in most games, he was putting up great numbers while getting double teamed. Also racking up six assists per game is pretty impressive, especially when you take into account the lack of weapons around him. His size is also one of his biggest strengths. A six-foot-five-inch tall point guard with a six-foot-ten-inch wingspan is such a physical advantage over most players even in todays NBA. The main concerns for Fultz has been a lack of winning and competitiveness. Then again, can you blame someone for being frustrated for being on such a losing team when being the top overall prospect? Main analysis is Fultz will be a franchise player. Any team who passes on Fultz would be out of their minds.

Lonzo Ball: The prospect with the biggest name in the draft. Between him and his father, there hasn't been this much hype surrounding a name in college basketball in some time. Ball’s draft stock soared late in the season and into tournament play and some even have him surpassing Fultz as the first overall pick. By far the best passer in the draft, Ball is a prolific point guard that makes everyone on his team better. Someone who could easily pull of many triple-doubles in the NBA with his ability to score, rebound and assist. I believe Ball will have a big impact on any NBA team he goes to, however I am not ready to call him a future star just yet. Only averaging 14 points at UCLA, he was never known as a complete prolific scorer. Despite shooting 45 percent from three, he has an unusual shot form which could end up hurting him in the pros. For me, a key part of being a superstar in the league is having the ability to take over a game. Lonzo scored only 10 points in a loss to Kentucky which ended UCLA’s season. It seems almost as if he can play as well as the team around him. When his teammates started making errors, his passes became less effective, hence his play became less effective. However, no matter which NBA team he plays on, his teammates will undoubtedly be better than any college lineup he has played with. Final take on Lonzo is he could be a stud in the NBA, but will not reach superstar level. I consider him at best to be the second man of a big three with potential to be a bust if his unorthodox shot form does not transfer to the NBA.

Josh Jackson: Jackson might be one of the most interesting prospects in the draft. A very athletic forward who is a lockdown defender. His size makes him a unique two way player as he is too big for for guards, but yet too quick for most forwards and big men. The two weaknesses that jump off the page for Jackson is shooting and mentality. Shooting 28 percent from beyond the arc and 55 percent from the charity stripe is very low, especially for a forward who averages 15 ppg. His off the court issues have been an issue as of late. Even on the court, Jackson has received multiple technical fouls for arguing other foul calls in games. His aggressiveness could be his biggest strength but also his biggest weakness. Managing to get most of his points from driving to the basket, Jackson’s aggressiveness pays off. However, on the defensive end he often finds himself in foul trouble which could hurt his play in the NBA. Overall, if Jackson could stay out of trouble, and work on his shooting which on tape does not seem a horrible as the percentages show, he could be an NBA player similar to a Jimmy Butler. An Athletic lockdown defender with great offensive IQ. However, if the off-court issues continue, Jackson could go down a path few players have came back from.

Jayson Tatum: This is a prime example of a player who does not have one major skill stick out on paper, but someone who is very good at just about everything he does. A very good three-way scorer, Tatum can attack the basket just as well as he can step out and hit a three. Not overly athletic, but once again, has the ability to get to the basket and score. Much of Tatum’s focus is on the offensive end. A pretty average defender, but offensively he can do damage against any team. With room to improve in just about every category, Tatum can turn into a Carmelo-type scorer, with the ability to hurt you in multiple different ways. However, there is always the chance he just stays at an average pace and remains a career role player.

Malik Monk: The second best all around scorer in the draft. Besides Fultz, Monk dominates the offensive side of the ball more than anyone else. A prolific shooter as well as a slasher, teams struggle guarding Monk regardless of the defensive strategy. Monk can hit from outside, but when he drives, he makes you pay at the free throw line. He is simply instant offense, with the ability to put up 40 points on any given night as he proved with a 47 point performance over #1 seed UNC early on in the year. In fact, the one flaw he does have unfortunately is not even his fault. At only a generous six-foot-three-inch, Monk is very undersized for his position. In the NBA he will easily be three to four inches shorter than most of the opponents he will be forced to guard. Playing the two, he does not have the handles or passing ability to play point. Of course the height is not detrimental to his NBA success. Celtics SG Avery Bradley is the same height and has turned himself into one of the elite defensive players in the league, who can also put up 15 ppg. The defense will have to improve because of Monk’s height adjustment. Final Take; Monk can be an absolute offensive force in the NBA if he can learn to work around his height.

De’Aaron Fox: The other side of Kentucky’s backcourt powerhouse. Fox has so far lead Kentucky in both the SEC and the NCAA tournament. A dynamic point guard who can drive to the basket as well as any other point guard in college. Fox is a natural point guard with great inside scoring ability. With lightning speed, Fox can enter the NBA as already one of the fastest players in the league. This is a key reason as to why Fox is so good on the fast break. But don't let that fool you. Fox is great in the half court as well. Being able to take any defender one-on-one and get to the basket with ease. However, the issue with Fox is the long range shooting. Only a 23 percent shooter from beyond the three point line, De’Aaron’s lack of range could be trouble in his development into the NBA. At a 23 percent clip, there are not high expectations for him to become an elite shooter, but he must improve in order to take his game to the NBA level. Fox to me seems like a very raw version of a Westbrook or a John Wall. Someone who is very quick, can get to the basket but can not shoot particularly well. Fox has that potential, but if his shooting does not develop, expect NBA teams to find it easy to guard his takes to the basket which could leave him in deep trouble.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
