As finals week approaches, college students search for ways to procrastinate. People play new video games, start new seasons of TV shows on Netflix, binge watch YouTube videos, and spend endless hours on social media while putting off their work. However, in the spirit of Finals Week, we wanted to share some of the most productive ways to procrastinate.
1. Cleaning (Or Doing Laundry) - This task can easily be accomplished while listening to music or watching TV. If you feel like your room is organized, neat, and clean, maybe you’ll be more likely to clean up the rest of your act.
2. Exercising - If you exercise then you will feel great and look great, and maybe you’ll be more eager to achieve greatness in your work. On the other hand, feeling great and looking great might make you more likely to want to go out and party. Either way, it’s still a healthy way to procrastinate.
3. Cooking - Girl or guy, this is a great way to improve your appeal in a relationship. Girls love guys who can cook and guys love girls who can cook. And food is good on its own...so cooking is an all around win for everyone. And food will stimulate your brain, making you more productive, right?
4. Napping - If you take a nap, theoretically, you’ll wake up more energized than you were before. You’ll be well-rested, motivated, and ready to work the minute you wake up.
5. Writing - Just put words on paper and maybe it’ll turn into something useful. Like...the essay you were supposed to be writing anyway. (So technically not procrastinating…but a useful thing to do anyway).
6. Knitting - As Fall Finals approach, it starts getting pretty cold. Maybe you’ll be more motivated to work once you’ve knitted yourself a warm, wool blanket. Maybe not, but at least you’ll be warm.
7. Learn Another Language - Prepare yourself for your world travels by learning a bunch of random languages. Learning French will be useful for your trip to France...though it may not help you with your biology exam.
8. Playing a musical instrument - It’s been said that learning how to play a musical instrument can help a person’s overall ability for comprehension; in addition, you can make up songs to help remember facts for that upcoming test! By the time you’re done, you may or may not be able to remember that important information for your test, but at least you’ll have a whole new album ready to be released!
9. Calling your Parents - Your parents are always trying to reach you...naturally because you’re their son or daughter...so when is a better time to give them a call and tell them how great you’re doing in school than right before your final?
10. Reading (This Article) - In the amount of time you took to read this article, you could have written an outline for that paper due tomorrow morning, or have done a quick review for that final exam. However, we DEFINITELY aren’t suggesting you stop reading articles from The Odyssey!
In conclusion...oh forget it, just stop procrastinating and get to work already!
