If you're like me, you go to a college with a lot more estrogen than testosterone, and it isn't as exciting as you thought it would be when you first toured campus in high school. So, here are some of the downers of going to a school at least two-thirds women.
1. Gender communication class is a bit one-sided.
The phrase, "And what do the guys think about this?" is a staple in class, and things get pretty awkward when the two or three guys skip the same day.
2. Guys complain about not being able to find a date.
Every time there's a dance, you have to listen to your guys friends complain about not having anyone to go with, and you have to hold your tongue from saying something like "If you can't find a girl here, you're not gonna find one. Stop being so melodramatic.
3. And you just look at them like:
The guys will never understand what lengths (and distances) we have to go to import the right man. If we want a wide selection of beaus, we have to shop around.
4. Fraternities are male support groups.
When there are two ladies for every men, the guys start looking for support in numbers. So, when you're in the dining hall and see a bunch of guys sitting together, you're not sure if they're a frat or just random guys who wanted to be with their own kind for a change.
5. Everyone wonders why you don't give in and join a sorority.
And you just tell them that your whole school is pretty much a sorority, so why should I pay to have three foreign letters printed across my shirt?
6. Your friends think you're going off to become a feminist.
When you tell your friends you decided to go to a mostly-women school, they look at you and ask, "Why?" or "I didn't know you were interested in that kind of thing."
7. There's not much competition for being the "big man on campus."
There's that one popular guy on campus, and the girls who aren't lining up to be his groupies just sit there and wonder why that one stood out.
8. There are a lot of traditions clearly started by women.
If being thrown in a fountain when (not "if") you get engaged is a tradition at your school, you know you're on an estrogen-filled campus. So, do yourself a favor and tell your BF to wait until graduation to pop the question. Or better yet, have a career before settling down.
9. People assume women's studies is a required course.
Why do we need a separate course for this? We study women more than enough in the dorms, in the dinning hall, on the lawn, in class...
10. Almost every guy is an athlete.
Why else would they subject themselves to being so grossly outnumbered? Besides, there aren't many manly things to do on campus except run around a field and throw balls at each other.
11. Your family thinks you're becoming a nun and giving up on mankind.
Yeah, it's a bit harder to find a date, but it's not impossible. Give us credit, please!
So, for all you ladies out there at mostly-women colleges, hang in there. It's just four years.
