7 Halloween Attractions On Long Island

It’s Halloween season! One of the best times of the year. If you’re like me, you love all things fall and want to get into the holiday spirit however you can! Here are a few things right here on Long Island that you can do:

Haunted Houses:

1. Bayville Scream Park

Located in Bayville, NY they’re open every day through November 1st, as well as Nov. 6, 7 and 8th as well. You can get discount coupons through their website. They have attractions such as a haunted mansion, funhouse of fear, temple of terror, zombie pirates and evil in the woods. I’ve only heard great things about this park, but have never been (I get scared very easily)!

2. Darkside Haunted House

Located in Wading River, NY, this attraction is indoor and outdoor. You can buy tickets online. They have 30 different scenes for you to walk through. This is another one that I’ve heard great things about! But, I’ve been warned to be prepared when going here.

3. Gateway’s Haunted Playhouse

Gateway Playhouse is located in Bellport, NY and are also open through Halloween. You can also buy tickets online. While shortly navigating the website, they include a disclaimer that is easy to find with warnings for those with medical issues. The video on the main page gives me enough goosebumps to know I’ll be staying clear of this haunted house!

4. Schmitt’s Family Farm Haunted Mansion of Melville

Although this is at Schmitt’s Family Farm, at nighttime on the weekends, there is nothing all age friendly about these attractions in Melville. The three attractions you can see are The Experiment, the Haunted Mansion, and the Haunted Nighttime Corn Maze. At only $30 for all three attractions, this seems like a great deal! After looking at the pictures, I think I’ll save my money and stay safe in bed!

5. Yaphank Trail of Terror

After visiting the website and seeing that it's only $10 dollars a ticket, this trail seems like a great one to attend. In previous years, the trail was geared towards 7-12-year-olds, but they’ve been gearing their trail towards teens and adults, so it’s become much scarier. The proceeds all go to the Yaphank Presbyterian Church and their programs, so the actors are all volunteer. They have some other attractions as well in case you wimp out going on the actual trail.

Other Activities:

6. RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns

This is the event I’ve always wanted to go to. There are 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins that aluminate your walk through their Long Island location in Old Westbury. It is encouraged that you buy tickets online, as tickets sell out quickly. This is a family-friendly event that all ages can enjoy in awe. As it is at night, just be sure to bundle up!

7. Challenge Escape Room: Halloween Edition

Challenge Escape Rooms has come to Long Island! This is a great activity for anyone to do, whether it’s Halloween Edition or now. You can visit their website to get their phone number, as you can only book by appointment only. Their Halloween Edition is for those 16 years old and up. You start shackled to the wall and have to escape! Other attractions in the room are not specified, but this seems like a terror!

There is so much to do on Long Island during this time of year, even if you just go pumpkin picking at one of the many farms, mainly out east. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll have an awesome time with friends and family at these few locations, or any other you may find! Have a safe and Happy Halloween!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
