5 Reasons You Know You Lived in Portland, CT Your Whole Life

Whatever town we lived in all our lives before we went to college was fun, whatever we had did before we went to college, however far we went to college, we would never forget our towns where we had came from. As for me, Portland was my favorite hometown of all but let me tell you why:

1. The schools

When I grew up I went to from Preschool to 12th grade with all of the friends I made, friends with still went to the same schools as me and I couldn't be happier with it because during high school from 9th to 12th grade high school was the best times of my life with the friends I'm still with now but also I made new friends as well along the way from 9th to 12th grade so that was a good time with me. The friends I grew up with and made with was from cross country to outdoor track and indoor track and we had a lot of good laughs but those were the best times from high school. From the pasta parties and all the practices and also during the school times they were the best times ever.

2, Dairy Queen

Okay, let's be honest, it's the local hangout spot to go whenever me and my friends want to go. For other high school friends as well during the summer when everybody is working it's a cool spot to talk and catch up on recent events that had happened.

3. The fair

The fair is always during Columbus day weekend in October since whenever when. The reason why I like it is because you and your friends can go on a Friday night and have a good time even though now we are at different colleges high school students and some other college students can still go to the fairs still and live their youth before they are in their 30's or 40's then they realize they can't go anymore. But it was fun back in my early years.

4. Hanging out at our friend's house

During the high school years, for instance, in the summer we would hang at one of our friend's houses and chill and have fun. When it came to college such as thanksgiving and winter break we would have a lot of fun during those holidays and we will have a good time and catch up on recent events that had happened when we were in college during those months.

5. High school reunion

Even after we graduate college or whatever we are gonna do after college or high school. When it will come to our high school reunion we will have good laughs and remember the memories we had all those years when we were young and still have more along the way as we work and see each other after once in awhile during the weekend or whenever.

Overall I'm glad I got to lived in Portland CT my whole life and no other town all my life I'm glad to make a lot of good friends and I will keep it that way for all my life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
